Resolution 13172CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 13172 ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE EFFORTS OF THE ALAMEDA EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR THE GALA EVENT AND CONCERT SERIES SPRING 2000 PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Alameda Education Foundation's mission is "to engage Alameda's citizenry, political, and business communities to create an exemplary public school system, ensuring Alameda's future economic vitality and unique quality of life "; and WHEREAS, the Alameda Education Foundation, comprised of parents, educators, residents, businesses and community leaders works together to support educational excellence with the Alameda Unified School District; and WHEREAS, the Alameda Education Foundation supports the theory that music instruction is a vital component to educational growth benefitting childrens' measurable growth in academic areas; and WHEREAS, in an effort to enhance our schools and bring exciting new cultural events to Alameda, the Alameda Education Foundation, with the sponsorship of Wind River Systems, Inc., Lucent Technologies and AT &T Cable Services, produced a Gala Event held on November 13, 1999 at the Kofman Auditorium with Maestro Michael Morgan and the Oakland East Bay Symphony, hosted by Frederica Von Stade, as the kick off to the Concert Series Spring 2000 Program. WHEREAS, Judy Blank, Frederica Von Stade, Michael Morgan, Ainhoa Arteta, Ellen Hoffman, Jerry Fiddler, Steve Cohen, Josh Cohen, Iry Hamilton, and Jo Leitz were all essential to the success of this effort. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda, hereby commends the efforts of the Alameda Education Foundation on behalf of the children of our community, and expresses gratitude for the dedication, effort and love which went into the creation and implementation of this Gala and the Spring Concert Series. Alameda residents, family and friends are encouraged to support this noble effort for the benefit of the children of Alameda. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 18th day of January , 2000, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and Mayor Appezzato - 5.
