RECOGNIZING J. C. SHIRRIEL'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, on January 20, 2000, J. C. Shirriel passed away after a very
short illness; and
WHEREAS, J. C. Shirriel was a major contributor to this community and
lead an exemplary life dominated by his love for life and for his family; and
WHEREAS, J. C. Shirriel served on the Recreation and Park Commission
with distinction since 1995 and had recently been elected Chair; and
WHEREAS, J. C. was a long time advocate for youth having been
instrumental in the designng and construction of the Alameda Skate Park as well as
coaching and sponsoring a number, of local youth sports teams; and
WHEREAS, J. C. served on the Recreation and Park Commission during
the time that a number of significant projects were conceived, designed, and
constructed including the Hardball Field at the College of Alameda, Dog Exercise
Area, and preliminary plans for the renovation of Jackson Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda
hereby acknowledges the many civic and youth oriented contributions made by J. C.
Shirriel during his lifetime and more particularly, the efforts he made more recently
while serving on the Recreation and Park Commission as one of the official members
of the City Family.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council wants J. C. Shirriel
to be remembered as a man with good intentions, high standards and an abundance of
good will
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on
the 15th day of February , 2000, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and
Mayor Appezzato 5.
NOES: None.
