AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT
A GRANT APPLICATION FOR A FEASIBILITY STUDY GRANT FOR
THE CROSS-ALAMEDA MULTIPURPOSE TRAIL
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation (DOT) has established
grants for six different planning programs in order to implement capital improvement
projects that reduce congestion and improve mobility across California; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Cross-Alameda Multipurpose Trail is proposed to
stretch from Alameda Point to the Fruitvale Bridge having the potential to connect
several major public transportation hubs, four existing city parks, and future park areas,
the Bay Trail, five schools, and provide local recreation opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Cross-Alameda Multipurpose Trail would contribute to
a balanced, multi-modal transportation system by providing a safe, non-motorized east-
west access across the northern side of the island of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the Cross-Alameda Multipurpose Trail would promote community
based planning and create more livable communities in this region by improving
transportation choices and increasing pedestrian, bicycle, and transit linkages; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda, in conjunction with Save Open Space in
Alameda and the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, desires to submit a grant application to
the DOT for an amount not to exceed $150,000 to prepare a feasibility study for the
Cross-Alameda Multipurpose Trail.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Alameda hereby authorizes the City Manager or his designee to:
1 File an application with the California Department of Transportation
Seeking funding in an amount not to exceed $150,000 to be matched
with additional funds estimated to be between $7,500 and $15,000 in
City funds to implement a feasibility study for the Cross-Alameda
Multipurpose Trail; and
2. Execute all necessary applications, contracts, payment requests,
Agreements, and amendments for securing grant funds and to
implement and carry out those specified in the grant application.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 16th
day of July, 2002, by the following vote to wit:

Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and
Mayor Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
