AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF THE ABANDONED VEHICLE
ABATEMENT PROGRAM UNTIL MAY, 2013
WHEREAS, the Alameda County Abandoned Vehicle Authority (AVA) was formed
in 1993, and the City of Alameda is an active member; and
WHEREAS, the AVA Program has contributed approximately $696,100 and allowed
for the abatement of approximately 28,000 abandoned vehicles in the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the AVA Program is set to expire in May, 2003; and
WHEREAS, new legislation allows for a 10 -year extension of the AVA Program with
the approval of the County and a majority of the cities comprising a majority of the population of
the incorporated areas; and

WHEREAS, it is beneficial to the City of Alameda to have the AVA Program
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Alamada hereby supports the extension of the AVA Program until May, 2013.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 20th
day of August, 2002, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr, and
Mayor Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
