Resolution 13531CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 13531 SUPPORTING THE CITY OF ALAMEDA'S PARTICIPATION BY HONORING SEPTEMBER 11th AS A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE 9/11 TERRORIST ATTACKS WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the United States of America in a series of despicable acts of war as described in the following chronology: At 8:48 am, hijacked American Airlines Flight 11, with 92 people onboard, was flown into the north tower, 1 World Trade Center. An hour and forty minutes later, the north tower collapses. At 9:05 am, approximately eighteen minutes later, hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 with sixty -five people onboard hits the south tower, 2 World Trade Center. Fifty -four minutes later, the south tower collapses. At 9:43 am, hijacked American Airline Flight 77 with sixty -four people onboard crashes into the Pentagon, collapsing one of the buildings' five sides. At 10:00 am, hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 with forty -six people onboard, crashes just north of the Somerset County Airport, about 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. WHEREAS, due to the actions of a few, thousands of lives were lost; the citizens of this great nation and people around the world remember the tragic images instilled in their minds and will carry the loss in their hearts forever; and WHEREAS, for the loss of family members and friends, and for the freedom of our county for which these lives were taken, we dedicate this day, September 11th to the many lives lost. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda, that all citizens of Alameda are asked to join us in remembering those whose lives were taken as a result of terrorists' actions. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we thank the public safety, rescue workers, and volunteers who heroically responded with courage, selfless compassion, determination and skill. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that September 11th is hereby declared as a Day of Remembrance and is dedicated in honor of both the innocent and the heroic lives who were lost. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the U.S. Conference of Mayors. * * * ** I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a special meeting assembled on the 11th day of September, 2002, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, and Ke NOES: None.
