TO ENACT AB 14 RELATIEM TO THE ESTABLISPMEM OF A STATE
CC1LEGE IN ALAMEDA A
WHEREAS, because of immediate and srgbnt need, the County cT Alameda has
been established. by the State Board of Education as having tho number ono priority
within the atate of California for the location and operation of a State Collegb;
end
UEEREAS, there has been introdumed into the Legislature of thb State of
California. Assemblx Bill No. 14 which zallb for the lbcation of a State College in
the County of alomeda; and
WHEREAS, the Debartment of Ebubation may utilize temporarily. the facili-
ties of the United States Maritime TraininF Statiob. in Alameda, California, im
order to relievo the needs for additional buildings at Son Francisco State and
dun Jose State unti1 .. such time a bermonent location. and new college facilities
are available in Alameda County or at fhb aforementioned institutions; and
WHEREAS, the Maritime Training Station property has thirty-three (33)
buildings with approxlmeteby 140,CM0 square feet of floor space which Maritime
officials haxe indicated "The Maritinm Administration is prepared to enter into
farther discussions of a transfer of the installatdon for educational -purposes
whonever desirable"; and.
DEEREAS, fhb State of California con acquire the United States Maritime
Training Station for educational. purposes at a tremendous savdng to the taxpayer
and, ey so doing, relieve the acute need for a State College in this area;
NOM, TEEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF TES CITY OF ALAMEDA.
that we hereby memorialize the Legislature of the State of California to enact
AB 14, authoribing tbe State Board of (111 1. to take suc1 . action as it moy
deem necessary and proper in the premises.
