AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACQUIRE TEMPORARY
CONSTRUCTION EASEMENTS IN RELATION TO SEWER PUMP
STATION RENOVATIONS FOR RELIABILITY AND SAFETY
IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT (ALL GROUPS)
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda, is undertaking a capital improvement project
to renovate existing sewer pump stations for reliability and safety improvements; and
WHEREAS, the renovation work includes installing permanent backup
generators, installing multiple pumps, replacing motor controls, installing System
Control and Data Acquisition alarms and other safety improvements to provide
reliable power to operate the sewer delivery system and prevent Sanitary Sewer
Overflows(SSOs) in the event of a power failure; and
WHEREAS, over the course of the entire project, the City will be required to
acquire various temporary construction easement from private property owners at the
following preliminary locations including but not limited to:
a. Channing Pump Station – 346 Channing Way.
b. Pond/Otis Pump Station – 1934 Otis Drive.
c. Verdemar Pump Station – 3049 Flora Vista Drive.
d. Willow/Whitehall Pump Station – 502 Willow Street.
e. Triumph/Independence Pump Station - 1302 Triumph Drive.
f. Sand Beach Pump Station – 1155 Sand Beach Place.
g. East Shore/Myers Pump Station – 1330 East Shore Drive.
h. Sheffield/Cumberland Pump Station - 299 Sheffield Road.
i. Bayview Pump Station – 2812 Bayview Drive.
j. Sea View 1 Pump Station - 2701 Sea View Parkway.
k. Sea View 2 Pump Station – 57 Killybegs Road.
l. Franciscan/Yorkshire Pumpstation – 1970 Franciscan Way; and
WHEREAS, Charter Section 3-10 requires that the acquisition of real property
may be authorized by resolution when the purchase price to be paid, together with
any obligation imposed on the City in connection with any such acq uisition, does not
exceed the sum provided by the general law for cities requiring competitive bidding
for the purchase of supplies and materials.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda
that the City Manager is hereby authorized to acquire such temporary construction
easements as are necessary in relation to the sewer pump station renovations for
reliability and safety improvements projects at the various locations as required to
facilitate the construction of the required renovations, protect public safety, and
provide adequate construction area to the contractor in order to perform the work.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular
meeting assembled on the 5th day of November, 2013, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Chen, Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Tam and
Mayor Gilmore – 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
