REZUESTING THE FEDERAL GOVERNNENT TO CONSTRUCT,
OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A SUITABIE TEHICUIAR BRIDGE
AT THE LOCATION OF TEE PRESENT FRULTVALE AVLLLE
BRIDGE.
WHEREAS, it is a Federal Government responsibility, as shown in. the at-
tached report, to construct, operate. and maintain a suitable bridge at Frultvale
Avenue bet:een the Cities cf Oakland and Alameda, State of California; and
WHEREAS, the present bridge is unsuitable by reason of its antiquated .
design, slow operation, low clearance and inadequate vehicular capacity; and
WHEREAS, the present bridge causes unnecessary delay to the traveling
public and obstructs the consummation of the official major street plans of the
Cities of Oakland and Alameda including the vitally important connection to the
East Shore Freeway; and
WHEREAS, upon the completion of the East Shore Freeway there will be an
immediate reed for a suitable crossing to handle the greatly increased vehicular
traffic flov,ing to and from this Freeway: and
WHEREAS, the present bridze is dangerous to navigation and prevents the
improvement of the Estuary and the Tidal Canal, upon which the development of
economically important shipping facilities in San Leandro Bay depends
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OP ALAMEDA
that the Federal. Government be, and it is hereby-, memorialized to immediately
construct a suitable vehicular crossing at Fruitvale Avenue between the Cities
of Oakland and Alameda.
BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of the attached report and e certi-
fied copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Office of the United States Army
District Engineer, San Francisco, California, District, and to the Chief of the
United States Army Engineers, Washington, D, C.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda
in adjourned regular meeting assembled on the 13th day of December, 1049, by the
following vote, to wit:
