TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 1996, 7:30 P.M.
President Appezzato called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and
adjourned it to a Work Session.
Roll Call Present: Councilmembers Arnerich, DeWitt, Lucas,
Mannix and President Appezzato - 5.
Review of the Budget for Fiscal Years 1996-97 and 1997-98.
City Manager William Norton reviewed the Budget, including
projections for three additional years. He stated that the Budget
is balanced and does not include requests for fee increases or
taxes.
Susan McCormack, owner of the Webster House, requested $27,280 for
improvements to the Webster House.
Fundin Re uest for the Alameda Historic Museum for rent subsidy.
Robbie Dileo, Immediate Past President, Alameda Historical Museum,
requested $38,000 for rental space,
George Gunn, Curator of the Museum, spoke in support of the funding
request for rent subsidy.
Barbara Kerr, Alameda, suggested the City explore voluntary
contributions on property tax bills for Alameda cultural
organizations.
In response to comments by Ms. Kerr on the difficulty of acquiring
history on buildings, the City Manager responded that the matter is
being looked into.
Fundin. Re.uest for Alameda Civic Light Opera for one-time
contribution of 25,000, plus liability insurance.
Fred Chacon stated that the Alameda Light Opera needs City support
during the formation of the organization.
Following Council discussion on the Budget and funding requests,
President Appezzato adjourned the Work Session at 9:00 p.m.
