AMENDING THE ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL CODE BY AMENDING
ARTICLE 4B OF CHAPTER 1, TITLE XI AND SECTION
12-222 THEREOF RELATING TO SIGN REGULATIONS
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Alameda
Section 1. The Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended
by adding Subdivisions (8.5) and (38.5) to Subsection (d) of
Section 11-14B2, by adding Subsection (f) to Section 11-14B5, and
by adding Section 11-14B9.5, to read;
Sec. 11-14B2. Definitions.
(d)(8.5) BUSINESS PARK: Industrial or commercial
developments in all zones designated in
part by the letter M, which contain at
least 5 different businesses with a
combined gross floor area of at least
50,000 square feet.
(d)(38.5)OFF-PREMISE DIRECTIONAL SIGN: A sign
identifying a publicly-owned facility,
emergency facility, tenants within a
business park or a temporary subdivision
sign, which is no greater than 30 feet in
area. Such facilities and business parks
may have no more than two off-premise
directional signs.
(f)
Sec. 11-14B5. Prohibited Signs.
Excess Area. Signs in excess of fifty (50)
square feet.
Sec. 11-14B9.5. OFF PREMISE DIRECTIONAL
SIGNS. Off premise directional signs require use
permit approval pursuant to Article 6 of this
Chapter.
Section 2. The Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended
by amending Subsections (d), (e), (g), (h), and (i) of Section
11-14B9 and Subsection (k) of Section 11-14B13, to read:
Sec. 11-14B9. Regulation of Off-Premise
Outdoor Advertising Signs. Off-premise outdoor
advertising signs, where permitted, shall not:

Excepting Off-Premise Directional Signs, be
visible from a building or lot in a
residential district.
Excepting Off-Premise Directional Signs, be
visible within 1,000 feet of any bridge,
tunnel, dock or boat ramp.
Excepting Off-Premise Directional Signs, be
located on a route designated on the
General Plan as a Scenic Route.
Excepting Off-Premise Directional Signs, be
located on or adjacent to a parcel of land
containing a structure listed on the
Historical Building Study list.
Be located in residential or C-1 Districts.
Sec. 11-14B13. Signs Exempt.
Signs provided by the City for pedestrian
identification of nearby businesses.
Section 3. The Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended
by repealing Subsections (j) and (k) of Section 11-14B9 thereof.
Section 4. The Alameda Municipal Code is hereby amended
by amending the first paragraph of Section 12-222, to read:
Section 12-222. No billboard or part
thereof except Off-Premise Directional Signs, as
defined in Section 11-14B2(d) (385) shall be
located on or above any public property, nor shall
any billboard be located on private property
without the lawful consent of the owner, holder,
lessee, agent or trustee thereof. No sign or part
thereof, except Off-Premise Directional Signs and
street signs, shall be located over public
property.
Section 5. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after the expiration of thirty (30) days from the
date of its final passage.
