1966-03-21 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON - - - - - MARCH 21^ 1966 The meeting convened at 4;30 o'clock p.m. with President Godfrey presiding. ROLL CALL: Noted present were Councilmen Bartley, La Croix, Jr., McCall, Rose and President Godfrey, (5). Absent: None. Also present were Messrs. Parker Favier, William J. Hay, Elwood Heaney, Elliot S. Peterson and Robert L. Veres, members of the Advisory Golf Cnmmiosino, WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: ' 1. From Sarazen, Muirhead and Caldwell, Golf Course Architects, signed by Mr. Desmond Muirhead, ! submitting a report on its resume of initial recommendations to bring the City's Golf Courses up to a good standard for public play. The matter was referred to "Unfinished Business" for further consideration. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 2. President Godfrey called upon Mr. Muirhead, who verbally supplemented the report with pertinent information concerning conditions, operation and, particularly, maintenance of the Alameda Municipal Golf Couraea, The Councilmen and the Commissioners commented on, and submitted inquiries about, many phases of the project of renovating said Golf Courses as set forth in the report or relating t6ereto. At this meeting, interest and discussion centered on Golf Course No. 1. In alluding to finances, it was emphasized that the precise cost of fill material could not be determined at this time. Further, an accurate estimate of the probable decrease in revenue while the work was in progress could not be predicted. Many points were clarified by Meaoro. Muirhead and Weller. Following a lengthy discussion of the many factors involved, all agreed it was imperative that the Golf Courses be properly brought up to standard immediately or there would soon be a complete depreciation. Councilman La Croix then made a motion that the sum of $300,000 be allocated from the Capital Outlays Fund to reconstruct the No. 1 Municipal Golf Course and that the firm of Sarazen, Muirhead and Caldwell be employed to design and supervise the project for the additional sum of $20,000, the fee of said Golf Course Architects. Further, that a Committee be appointed to negotiate with the Architects during the construction period - being comprised of a member of the City Council, a member of the Golf Commission and the City Manager. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bartley and carried on the following rolI call vote. Ayes: Fine, Noes: None. Absent: None. FILING: 3.
