HELD WEDNESDAY EVENING APRIL 1956
The meeting convened at 5:45 o'clock P. M. with President Kranelly presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Haag, Hove, McCall, Moresi and President
Kranelly, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. The Clerk read the Call and Notice of Special Meeting, which set forth the speci-
fic purpose therefor - and stated that receipt of said Notice had been acknowledged
by each of the Councilmen. The Affidavit of Service, signed by Patrolman Peter Ege,
was on file.
RESOLUTIONS:
2. President Kranelly suggested each Councilman read in full his copy of the reso-
lution before the Council for consideration so that he would be fully apprised of
its provisions.
City Manager Froerer then distributed, for the Councilmen's information, copies of
a financial statement covering the estimated costs involved in having the tidelands
of Washington Park filled. A detailed discussion was had by the Council to determine
the proper amount to stipulate in the proposed measure for the bond issue, as con-
tained in the resolution, to adequately take care of the expenses of the fill and
improvement project in question.
The proposition to be voted on, as set forth in the resolution, is as follows:
SHALL THE CITY OF ALAMEDA incur a bonded indebtedness
in the principal amount of 8600,000.00 for the filling
of City owned submerged (tide) land located at Washington
Park, by the hydraulic dredging method, with sand, soil . ..
and other convenient materials; place top soil on surface . YES .. .
of such filled area, install irrigation system, including
pipes, valves, wells, and appurtenances; plant, propagate . .. .
and maintain grass turf on such filled area; install . NO .. .
drainage system, and perform other necessary and desirable . .
work to make such area high, dry and usable land?
The following resolution was thereupon introduced by Councilman Hove, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 5298
Resolution of the Council of the City of Alameda Stating
and Requesting Consolidation of a Special Municipal
Election to be Held on Tuesday, June 5, 1956, with the
Official Presidential Primary Election of the State of
California to be Held on Tuesday, June 5, 1956."
The motion was seconded by Councilman Moresi and on roll call carried by the fol-
lowing vote. Ayes: Councilmen Haag, Hove, McCall, Moresi and President Kranelly,
(5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the President declared the resolution
duly adopted and passed.
ADJOURNMENT:
3. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Council adjourned -
to assemble in regular session on Tuesday, April 17, 1956, at 8 :00 o'clock.
