1955-11-17 Special CC MinutesSPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF TKE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD THURSDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 17, 1955 The meeting convened at 7:30 o'clock P. M. with President Kranelly presiding. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Councilman Moresi. ROLL CALL: The roll was called and Councilmen Haag, Hove, McCall, Moresi and President Kranelly, (5), were noted present. Absent: ione. 1. The Clerk read the Call and Notice of Special Meeting, setting forth speci- fically the purpose therefor, receipt of copies of which had been acknowledged by each of the Councilmen. The Affidavit of Service, signed by Officer P. M. McDer- mott, was on file. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: 4. From the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, signed by Vic A. Cangi, Vice President and General Manager, stating that its Board of Directors urged, by motion passed at its regular meeting held November 16, 1955, that the Council place the insurance contract being considered at this Special M eeting, with 1-'1ameda businessmen. President Kranelly thanked the Chamber for this letter, which had been noted by the Council and would be referred to the file on the subject. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 3. The matter of the award of contract for Furnishing Fleet General Public Liability and Property Damage Insurance, under Specifications and Provisions No. MS 10-55-18, was again called up for consideration. The Clerk reread a letter in which the City Manager recommended that Proposal No. 1 from Fireman's Fund. Indemnity Company in the sum of 418,572.14 for a one year policy be accepted, and that lots be drawn by the five brokers who submitted identical bids for this company in order to select the broker to whom the award would be made. President Iranelly stated the Council was accepting the recommendation of the City Manager that Proposal No 1 from Fireman's Fund Indemnity Company in the sum of ,18,572.14 for a one year policy be accepted. Before presentation of the motion, anyone present and desiring to speak in this matter, was invited to do so. There being no response, Councilman Haag moved that the contract for furnishing Public Liability Insurance to the City of Alameda under the terms of Proposal No. of the Specifications, be awarded jointly to the five low bidders, namely: R. A. Wondolleck Co., Arthur F. Strehlow, Ross Wright, Richard P. Thunder, dba Shaw & Lunt, and Marsh & McLennan, - on an equal basis. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hove and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Haag, Hove, McCall, Moresi and President Kranelly, (5). Noes : None. Absent: None. ADJOURNMENT: 4. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Council adjourned - to assemble in regular session on Tuesday evening, December 6, 1955.
