HELD THURSDAY EVENING, MAY 8, 1947
The meeting convened, with President Branscheid presiding.
ROLL CALL:

The roll was called and Councilmen Anderson, Jones, Osborn, Sweeney and Presi-
dent Branscheid, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
MINUTES:
1. The minutes of the regular meeting held May 6, 1947, were approved as trans-
cribed.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
2" matter of the recommendation of the City Planning Board was presented, con-
cerning the requested reclassification of certain property bounded by Calhoun Street
onthe north, by Post Street on the east, by Otis Drive on the south and by Fountain
Street on the west. It was recommended that this area be rezoned from the "A" One-
Family Dwelling District to the "B" Two-to-Four Family Dwelling District.
President Branscheid asked that the recommendation of the City Planning Board,
dated April 11, 1947, be read, following which he requested the pleasure of the
Council in the disposition of this matter.
Councilman Sweeney moved the recommendation of the Planning Board be rejected. The
motion was seconded by Councilman Osborn and unanimously carried.
RESOLUTIONS:
3. City Manager McMillan explained the reasons for the creation of the positions
authorized by the following resolutions, stating that with all of the planned work
to be undertaken by the City, it is necessary that the personnel of the Engineering
Department be brought up to the proper level and standard.
4. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Osborn, who moved its
adoption:
'Resolution No, 3526
Creating the Position of 'Assistant Civil Engineer'
in the Street Department of the City of Alameda,
Prescribing the Duties and Fixing the Salary Thereof."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Anderson and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Anderson, Jones, Osborn,
Sweeney and President Branscheid, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the
President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Sweeney, who moved its
adoption:
Resolution No. 3527
Creating the Position of 'Chief Designing Engineer'
in the Street Department of the City of Alameda,
Prescribing the Duties and Fixing the Salary Thereof."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Osborn and on roll
cal] carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Anderson, Jones, Osborn,
Sweeney and President Branscheid, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon
the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Anderson, who moved its
adoption:

Creating the Position of 'Office Engineer' in the
Street Department of the City of Alameda, Prescrib-
ing the Duties and Fixing the Salary Thereof."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Anderson, Jones, Osborn,
Sweeney and President Branscheid, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon
the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
ORDINANCES FOR PASSAGE:
7. "Ordinance No.
New Series
An Ordinance Reclassifying Property by Adding
Section 38 to Ordinance No. 725, New Series.
Councilman Osborn moved this ordinance be withdrawn. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Sweeney and carried.
ADJOURNMENT:
8. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Council ad-
journed to assemble in regular session on Tuesday evening, May 20, 1947, at 8:00
P. M. in the Council Chamber.
