1945-04-09 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD MONDAY, APRIL 9, 1945 The meeting convened at 6:00 P. M. with President Godfrey presiding. ROLL CALL: The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5), were noted present. Absent: None. MINUTES: 1. The minutes of the regular meeting held April 3, 1945, were approved as transcribed. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: From the Mayor of the City of Berkeley, with regard to the request of the Berkeley City Council to the Corps of Engineers of the United States Army to make a survey of a site for the proposed Golden Gate International Airport, and thank- ing the Council of the City of Alameda for its cooperation in this matter. The communication was noted and ordered filed. 3. From the United States Naval Air Station, thanking the Alameda Fire Depart- ment for its invaluable assistance in extinguishing the fire which occurred at the Station on April 2. President Godfrey commented upon the courtesy of the Naval Air Station in acknowl- edging the help rendered by the Alameda Fire Department. ORDINANCES FOR INTRODUCTION: 4. Councilman Branscheid introduced the following ordinance, after which it was laid over under provision of law and the Charter: "Ordinance No. New Series An Ordinance Authorizing Execution of an Agreement for Sale, with the County of Alameda, for the Purchase of Certain lands for Municipal Purposes." RESOLUTIONS: 5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 3113 Cancelling City Taxes on Property of the United States." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Osborn and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon President Godfrey declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Osborn,who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 3114 Authorizing City Manager to Sell Scrap Materials." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon President Godfrey declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 7.7- Preliminary to his introduction of the following resolution, Councilman Jones reviewed the activities of President Godfrey as an official of the City of Alameda and stated that he was very certain the Council, in proposing the action taken by this resolution, was speaking for the entire community which has a deep feeling of gratitude toward the Mayor for the splendid service rendered over a long period of years. Councilman Jones stated that the City was in the process of establishing a play- ground on Bay Farm Island on a site which is owned by the City and that it appeared 200 to the members of the Council that nothing would be more fitting than that this playground should be known as "Godfrey Park", thereby carrying on the President's name in the City. Councilman Jones thereupon called upon the City Clerk to read the following reso- lution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 3115 Designating Certain Lands in the City of Alameda as "Godfrey Park." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones and Osborn, (4). Noes: None. Absent: None. Not Voting: President Godfrey, (1). Thereupon President Godfrey declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. President Godfrey responded - remarking that he felt very highly honored by this action and that he was of course very happy to accept the designation. FILING: 8. Agreement for Sale - Between City and County of Alameda, re Yacht Harbor. ADJOURNMENT: 9.
