The meeting convened at 6:00 P. M. with President Branscheid presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll as called and Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and President Branscheid,
(4) , were rioted present. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).

1. From Mayor Branscheid, presenting the C 11 and Notice of Special Meeting as
follows, which was read and ordered filed.
"CALL AND NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING
To the Members of the City Council
City of Alameda, California
Gentlemen:
YOU AND EACH OF YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED that a special
meeting of the Council of the City of Alameda is hereby called
and will be held on Thursday, the 24th day of May, 1945, at the
hour of 6:00 F. N. of said day, in the Council Chamber, City Hall,
Alameda, California.
The purpose of the aforesaid special meeting is to pro-
vide for representation of the City, by the City Manager, at a
conference to be held in Washington, D. C. relative to the con-
struction of a proposed new tube across the Estuary; also to
appoint an Acting City Manager during the absence of the City Manager.

2. The Affidavit of Service signed by Sgt. J. E. Bertrand of the Police Department,
was also presented and ordered filed. Acknowledgement of Service was signed by the
following members of the Council:
"Due service and receipt of a copy of the foregoing
Call and Notice of Special Meeting is hereby acknowledged
this 24th day of May, 1945.

The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Howe, who move its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 3142
Authorization for the City Manager to Attend
Conference in Washington, D. C. Regarding New
Tube."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and
President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1) . There-
upon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
4:/ The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Sweeney, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 3143
Appointing an Acting City Manager During the
Absence of the City Manager."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney
and President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
Thereupon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed-
ADJOURNMENT:
5. The Council adjourned to assemble in regular session on Tuesday evening,
June 5, 1945, at 8:00 P. M.
