This matter was referred to I/Resolutions." 14\./ At this point Councilman Jones stated. that the Flag Day Committee was proceed- ing with its work and that plans for the observance of Flag Lay in the City of Ala- meda are almost complete. Be announced —that the Committee was holding a meeting this evening at which time it was hoped the full program would be mapped. out. He noted the presence of many members of the Committee at the Council meeting. Councilman Sweeney asked the City Manager, through the President, if he would . give to the Flae; Day Committee members present, the brief talk on the subject of the City Manager-Council form of Government which he had given to the Junior Chamber of Commerce members at a recent meeting of the Council. Mr. McMillan thereupon gave an outline of the City Manager-Council form of Govern- ment in its application to the City of Alameda. President Branscheid greeted the visitors and stated that the Council is always pleased to have a display of interest on the part cf the citizens of Alameda in the work being done on their behalf. lb. The President called upon the City Manager for a report on the transportation situation, with particular reference to the terminals in San Francisco and Oakland. Fr. Fcmillan read a letter from the Key System concerning progress being made on these terminals and upon completion of the reading of the communication, stated he had received information to the effect that the Ley System did not plan to call for bids on the work, but would make an immediate award of a contract for construc- tion of the terminals after Tune 8, at which. time the architectural plans will have bee completed. He further stated that. ne had on the proposed plan for the layout in San Francisco and. believed that if they do get this construction under way it will be a very. fine thing for the.transbay passengers. President Branscheid stated that this committee has served during the past year and hos done 0 remarkably fine job in handling the remodeling et buildings in Alameda for war services workers' residential purposes anl . the rental thereof. He continued that while this work has ncm dropped down considerably, the Council believes that it is advisable to have this as a standing committee as there will be much work for it to do in the coming months. 30.
