HELD FRIDAY EVENING, JUNE 29, 1945
The meeting convened at 6:00 P. M. with President Branscheid presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and President
Branscheid, (4), were noted present. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
1. From Pacific Coast Joint Committee for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair,
addressed to Carl Froerer as Acting City Manager, assuring cooperation in
efforts to solve problem of eliminating the oil pollution of San Francisco
Bay waters and adjoining beaches.
The City Clerk was instructed to give this information to the press for pub-
lication and the letter was then ordered filed.
2. From Public Roads Administration, Federal Works Agency, notifying the
Council that California Project DA -NR 73(2) - Main Street from Atlantic to
Pacific Avenues - has been completed and is therefore being turned over to
the City for maintenance as of June 20, 1945.
The communication was ordered filed.
INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCES:
3. Councilman Sweeney introduced the following ordinance, after which it was
laid over under provision of law and the Charter:
"Ordinance No.
New Series
An Ordinance Leasing Certain Lands Owned by the City
of Alameda to the United States of America, Approving
the Form and Terms of Said Lease and Authorizing the
Execution Thereof."
RESOLUTIONS:
4. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Sweeney, who moved
its adoption:
"Resolution No. 3176
Establishing One Additional Position of Policewoman
in the Police Department of the City of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and
President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
Thereupon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and pass ed.
5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Jones, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 3177
Establishing Part Time Position of Billing Machine
Operator and Fixing Salary Thereof."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Sweeney and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and
President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
Thereupon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Sweeney, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 3178
Creating an Additional Position of Senior Stenographer-
Clerk in the Office of the Auditor and Assessor of the
City of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and
President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
Thereupon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
7. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Howe, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 3179
Transferring $25,000. from the General Fund to
the Cash Basis Fund."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Sweeney and on
roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney
and president Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
Thereupon the President declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
FILING:
8. Form of Lease - Between City of Alameda and United States of America,
covering portion of McKinley Park.
BILLS:
9. An itemized List of Claims against the City of Alameda and several of the
departments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the Council
at this meeting: General Departments, $1,491.51; Street Department, $1,060.47;
Recreation Department, $236.07; Federal Recreation Facilities, $2.35.
Councilman Howe moved the bills as itemized in the List of Claims filed with the
City Clerk on June 29, 1945, and presented to the Council at this time, be al-
lowed and paid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Tones and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Howe, Jones, Sweeney and
President Branscheid, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).
ADJOURNMENT:
10. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to
assemble in regular session on Tuesday evening, July 3, 1945, at 8 :00 P. M.
