meeting convened at 8:00 p. m- with President Godfrey presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Tones and President
dfrey, (4), were noted present. Absent: Councilman Osborn, (1).

1. The minutes of the regular meeting held- June 5, 1943, were approved . as
transcribed.

prososal for audifin ervices to the City 00 Alameda for the fiscal year 1943-1944,
in the total amount of $2,850.
There being no objections, this matter was referred to "Resoutions".
ORAL COMEICTIONS:

3. MT, T. Arnold. Anderson, representing the Municipal License Tax Association,
addressed. the Council with. regard to the gener al. license ordinance which is now
under consideration for adoption . by the City of 01 Mr. Anderson is in.
accord witi . many features of the proposed ordinance but takes excention to the
discriminatory item of non-uniform license fees between inside and. outside re
tailers.
Mr. O. M. Anmyl of tha Golden. State Company, Ltd., and ITr, D. W. Hogue of the
Carnation Company also addressed the Council, es representatives of the Alameda
County Milk. Dealers' Association, and protested against the variance in license
fees between inaida and outsida retailers.
Mr. Frank dottstejn expressed himself as being in accord with the proposed license
ordinance.
S. Agnew also addressed the Council, stating that at the meetings of local
merchants and citizens in whiah he participated, the members had, wholeheartedly
endorsed the contemplated ordinance as written and it is hoped that the Council
will adopt it in its present form.
REPORTS 07 COHEJTTEES:
From. the Public Utilities Hoard, submitting a copy of its Resolution. N . 769,
adopting the budget of the Department of Public Utilities for the fiscal year
ending June 30, 1944. This budget contains a pledged dividend to the City of
Alameda in the amount of 00000.

"In the sUdden and untimely death of Edwin M Otis, Alameda has
lost one of her foremost friends and citizens.
"His loyal and generous character, his public spirit and his
faithful and upright conduct as a member of the legal profession
endeared. him to his friends and to the people of this City and this
County.
"DE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we, the members of the Council

24. Councilman Dranscheid moved the Council adjoarn in respect to the memory
of the late Judge Edwin NI. Otis. The motion was seconded by Councilman Howe
and unanimously carried.
