OCTOBER iq 1943 The meeting convened at 8:00 p. m. with President Godfrey presiding. ROLL CALL: The roll was called and Councilmen Dranscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5) , were noted present. Absent: None. MINUIES: J- The minutes of the regular meeting held October as transcribed. 1943, were approved REPORTS OF COMMITTEES: From the City Manager, submittinz an Offer for Maintenance and Operation dated September 28, 1943, received from the Federal Works Agency in response to the City's application, authorized by Resolution No. 2901, adopted August 3 1943, for financial aid in carrying on recreation activities for service men and civilian war workers. Councilman i3ranscheid moved the Offer be filed and made a part of the public records of the City. The motion was seconded by Councilman Howe and unanimously carried. The Mayor then referred the matter to "Resolutions". 3. From the City Manager, recommending that Mr. Walter C. Lee, employee in the Park Department, be granted permission to attend the Rescue School to be con- ducted at the University of California, Berkeley, from November 8 to 18, inclu- sive, and that a sum not to exceed 0_5. be appropriated for his expenses. Councilman Osborn moved the recommendation of the City Manager be approved; that Walter C. Lee be authorized to attend the Rescue School at the University of California for the period stated and that an amount of .1,15. be allowed to defray his expenses. The motion was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5) . Noes: None, Absent: None, 4. From the City Attorney, concerning action entitled, 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Plaintiff, vs. Certain parcels, etc., RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT COMPAh_ OF SAN FRANCISCO, et al., Defendants, No, 22301-S." This action covers proper now occupied by the United States Maritime School, formerly known as Neptune Beach and is for the purpose of reserving to the City a certain easement for a storm. sewer. There being no objections, the matter was referred to "-Re olltionsTt. 5. At this time, Ma or Godfrey stated that if there were no objections, the order of business would revert back to "Oral Communications". The spokesman inquired what progress was being, made with regard to procuring funds to repair the levee, thus obviating the possibility of floods. 8. The order of business then continued under the regular heading of "Ordi- 10. The notion was seconded by Councilman Howe and unanimously carried. Mayor Godfrey stated, the minutes should record that Councilmen Branscheid, Howe and. Tones also attended the session of the League Convention. on October 19. RESOLUTIONS: 12. The following resolution was introduced. by Councilman Jones who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2925 Accepting the Offer of the United. States of America in Connection with Defense Public Work Project Identified as Docket No. Calif 4-M-341." The notion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Branscheid and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5) . Noes: None. Absent: None. There- upon the I:ayor declared saicl resolution duly adopted and passed. 13, The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Howe, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2926 Authorizing Execution of Stipulation in Condemnation Proceedings, United States of America, Plaintiff, vs. Certain Parcels of Land in the City of Alameda, etc., Defendants, No . 2230]-3." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Coun.cilman Branscheid and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None, Absent: None. There- upon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 14. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Osborn, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2927 Approving First Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement for Expenditure of 1/4 Cent Gas Tax Allocated for State Highways." The motion, to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5) . Noes: None, Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 15. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Jones, who moved it adoption: "Resolution No. 2928 Abolishing Position of "Fireman-Mechanic" in the Fire Department of the City of Alameda." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Osborn and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 16. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who .moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2929 Creating Position of "Automotive Utility Mechanic" in the General Administrative Department of the City Manager." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Osborn and President Godfrey, (5).
