HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON SEPTEMBER 10 1940
The meeting convened at 5:00 o'clock P. N. with President Weichhart presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and. Councilmen Maurer, Morris and. President Weichhart, (3),
were noted present. Absent: Councilmen Carrington and. Godfrey, (2). Shortly after
the roll was called Councilman Carrington joined the meeting.
HEARINGS:
1. Hearing was continued on the matter of closing portions of Clay Street and.
Fillmore Street, which proceedings were initiated at the regular meeting of the
Council held. September 3, 1940.
The City Attorney presented and read a communication he had addressed to the Council
stating reasons which, in his opinion, would make it advisable to drop the street
closing proceedings now under consideration and to commence again from the beginning.
After discussion, the matter was referred to "Resolutions".
OPENING OF BIDS:
2. Bids were presented and opened for the construction of Main Street from the
northerly curb line of Pacific Avenue, north and westerly for a distance of 9,150 feet
and Atlantic Avenue from the westerly line of Main Street for a distance of 1,152 feet
to the Peralta Grant Line as follows:

There being no objections, the bids were referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney
for study and recommendation.
NEW BUSINESS:
3. The City Manager stated he had received an offer to purchase an old fire gong for
the sum of $2.00 and recommended that this article be sold for the price mentioned.
Councilman Maurer moved the recommendation of the City Manager be approved, seconded
by Councilman Carrington and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes:
Councilmen Carrington, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (4) . Noes: None.
Absent: Councilman Godfrey, (1).
4: The City Manager discussed the meeting to be held between the Board of Supervisors
of Alameda County and the City Council regarding the request made by the City of Ala-
meda to the County of Alameda for refund of moneys expended by the City for joint
operation with the County of the Fruitvale Avenue Bridge during the period from Febru-
ary to June, 1940.
The City Manager stated that the present plan is to hold this meeting at 4:00 o'clock
Thursday afternoon, September 26, 1940, in Oakland, California
RESOLUTIONS:
5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Morris, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2521
Sustaining Objections to the Closing of
Portions of Clay Street and Fillmore Street
in the City of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Maurer, Morris and.
President Weichhart, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Godfrey, (1). Thereupon
the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Carrington, who moved it
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2522
Resolution of Intention to Close Portions of
Clay Street and. Fillmore Street in the City
of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Maurer, Morris and. Presi-
dent Weichhart, (4). Noes: None, Absent: Councilman Godfrey, (1). Thereupon the
Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
7. Councilman Maurer moved the meeting adjourn to meet in regular session on
Tuesday evening, September 17, 1940, at 8:00 o'clock P. M.
