HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON OCTOBER 8 1940
The meeting convened at 5:05 o'clock P. M. with President Weichhart presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and
President Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
1✓ A communication was presented from Judge Daniel H. Knox, requesting the Council
to make a $50.00 appropriation to defray his expenses in attending the Fourth Annual
Convention of Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of the State of Cali-
fornia, held in Santa Monica, October 3, 4 and 5, 1940.
Councilman Maurer moved that, it being legally impossible to appropriate City money
for such a purpose, the request be denied. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Carrington and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen
Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None.
Absent: None.
HEARINGS:
. The matter of the proposed closing of portions of Clay Street and Fillmore
Street in the City of Alameda was presented for hearing.
There being no objections filed, the matter was referred to "Resolutions ".
ORDINANCES INTRODUCED:
3. Councilman Godfrey introduced the following ordinance, after which it was laid
over under provisions of law and the Charter:
"Ordinance No.
New Series
Authorizing the Execution of Contracts for the
Purchase of Certain Lands for the Widening of
Main Street."
4. Councilman Maurer introduced the follow

RESOLUTIONS:
5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2528
Ordering the Closing of Portions of Clay Street
and Fillmore Street in the City of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Morris and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris
and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Carrington, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2529
Authorizing the Mayor of the City to Make Appli-
cation to the Railroad Commission of the State
of California for Permission to Construct Cross -
ings at Grade Over Tracks of the Alameda Belt Line."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris
and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon, the Mayor de-
clared said resolution duly adopted and passed.
FILING:
7. Affidavit of Publication - Notice of Public Work - re closing of portions of
Clay and. Fillmore Streets.
8. Form of Agreement - Between City of Alameda and. Giuseppe and Maria Carpaneto
for the purchase of certain lands for the widening of Main Street.
9. Form of Agreement - Between City of Alameda and Delfina Carpaneto for the
purchase of certain lands for the widening of Main Street.
10. There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned to meet in
regular session on Tuesday evening, October 15, 1940, at 8:00 o'clock P. M.
