1941-05-27 Regular CC Minutes.11D- jOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 27, - 1941 The meeting convened at 5:00 o'clock P. M. with President Weichhart presiding. nT r, A T T • The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Godfrey, Howe, Maurer and President Weichhart (5), were noted present. Absent: None. • ORAL COLITUNICIJI_ONS: 1. The City Manager explained the resolution to be adopted at this meeting authorizing the execution of an agreement with the Southern Pacific Company covering the removal of its tracks from Encinal Avenue between Sherman Street and south High Street. Removal of tracks is to be done by the City of Alameda, for which the Southern Pacific Company will pay to the City the sum of 2O,672. to cover the 1.895 miles involved. The tracks when removed will be turned over to the Southern Pacific Company as salvage. A. special fund, to be known as the Sncinal Avenue improvement Fund, in the amount of 20,672., will be set up on the Auditor's books and on completion of said work, should any portion of said sum remain in this fund, the balance shall be transferred to the General Fund of the City. 2. The City Manager also explained the resolution authorizing the agreement with The Regents of the Univer sity of California to use a strip of land .for highway purposes during the proposed raising and re-paving of Webster Street from the Segregation Line to the southern portal of Posey Tube. This is to eliminate all cross traffic on Webster Street in front of the Tube. 3. The City Manager also explained the ordinance to be introduced at this meeting, providing for the erection and maintenance of traffic stop signs on Grand Street from the northerly line of San Antonio Avenue to the southerly line of Clinton Avenue. ORDINANCES INTRODUCED: 4. Councilman Maurer introduced the following ordinance, after which it was laid over under provision of law and the Charter: "Ordinance No. New Series An Ordinance Amending Section 17-431 of the Alameda Municipal Code by Adding Subdivision (15) Thereto." UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 5. The City Attorney further explained the agreement between the Southern Pacific Com- pany and the City of Alameda regarding the removal of railroad tracks along Encinal Avenue between. Sherman and South. High Streets. There being no objections, the Form of Agreement with the Southern Pacific Company concerning removal of tracks on Encinal Avenue between Sherman Street and south High Street was approved. b. There being no objections, the Form of Agreement with The Regents of the University of California, for the use of certain lands adjacent to the westerly line of Webster Street for highway purposes, was approved. RESOLUTHONS: 7. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2602 Authorizing Execution of Agreement with Southern Pacific Company Covering Removalhof Tracks on Encinal Avenue Between Sherman Street and South High Street." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Godfrey, Howe, Maurer and President Weichhart, (5) . Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 8. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2603 Authorizing Execution of an Agreement with The Regents of the University of California for the Use of Certain Lands Adjacent to the Westerly line of Webster Street." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Godfrey, Howe, Maurer and President Weichhart, (5) . Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 9.
