HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JUNE 2, 1942
The meeting convened at 8:00 p. n. with President Godfrey presiding.
IZOLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President
Godfrey, (5) , were noted present. Absent: Lone.
YlaNUTES:
1. The minutes of the regular meeting held May 19, 1942, were approved
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
2. From Mr. A. J. McChesney, requesting permission to move a house from property known
as 2123 Clement Avenue to a lot adjoining 836 Central Avenue. The moving of this house
was recommended by the Building Inspector.
Councilman Branscheid moved that the Council give permission to move the house as re-
quested - such moving to be done subject to all requirements of the City ordinances.
The motion was seconded by Councilman Howe and unanimously carried.

From the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, submitting a budget in the amount of 0,300.
for City advertising during the fiscal year 1942-1943. There was also submitted a
budget from the Alameda Junior Chamber of Commerce, requesting advertising funds for
the City in the amount of p59O.
There being no objections, these budgets were referred to the Committee of the Whole.
4. From the Veterans' Welfare Board of the State of California, enclosing petition
for cancellation of certain taxes appearing on the tax records as a lien against
property in this City owned by the Board.
There being no objections, the matter was referred to 'Resolutions".
From Goodell, Byers & Henry, Certified Public Accountants, submitting a proposal
auditing services during the coming fiscal year for the total sum of 2,55O.
As it is not the wish of the Council to make any change in the present auditing ser-
vices, the City Attorney was requested to prepare the necessary contract for such
services between. Goodell, Byers & Henry and the City of Alameda for the fiscal year
1942-1943.
There was presented a deed from the Union Iron Works Dry Dock Company, dated
May 18, 1942, conveying to the City of Alameda certain real property as more particu-
larly described therein, for public street and highway purposes.
There being no objections this matter was referred to "Ordinances for introduction".
7. From the Alameda Housing Authority
survey of building site selections.
There being no objections, this matter was referred to the Comruttee of the Whole.
ORAL COM=ICATIONS:
8. The City Manager requested authority from the Council to sell certain railroad
ties for the best prices obtainable - which he indicated to be between ten and fifty
cents per tie, according to its condition or grade.
Councilman Howe moved the City Manager be authorized to dispose of these railroad ties

9. From the Mayor, City Manager and Auditor, reporting on Count of Money, held May

10. From the City Planning Board approving a plan sponsored by Mr. Lochiel Y. King
which recommends the construction of three traffic lanes in the Posey Tube for the pur-
pose of speeding up the passage of traffic. This plan was approved in general by the
Planning Board with certain revisions and the Board requested that if the Council also
approves the plan it be further investigated and promoted.
Councilman Branscheid moved that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Alameda be
informed that this matter has been referred to the City Council and to request the
Board of Supervisors to advise the Council of its findings if and when a study is made
of the plan. The motion was seconded by Councilman Howe and unanimously carried.
11. From Mayor Godfrey, nominating Mr. Norman D. Weeden for the office of member of
the Library Board of the City of Alameda for a term commencing July 1, 1942 and expir-
ing June 30, 1947.

the offices of members of the Social Service Board of the City of Alameda each for a
term commencing July 1, 1942, and expiring June 30, 1945.

the Civil:Service Board of the City of Alameda for a term commencing July 1, 1942, and
expiring June 30, 1947.

of Education of the City of Alameda for a term commencing July 1, 1942, and expiring
June 30, 1947.

Public Utilities Board of the City of Alameda for a term commencing July 1, 1942, and

There being no objections, these communications were referred to "Resolutions".
1/. From Jr. James E. Hall, tendering his resignation as a member of the Retirement
Board of the City of Alameda and the Housing Authority of the City of Alameda.
Councilman Branscheid moved that the resignation of Mr. Hall be accepted with regret.
The ,motion was seconded by Councilman Howe and unanimously carried.
18. At this time, Councilman Branscheid stated it would be impossible for him to attend.

19. Councilman Jones requested all City officials and any others who could possibly do
so to attend the Flag Day exercises to be held Saturday, June 13, 1942, at McKinley Park.

20. Councilman Branscheid introduced the following ordinance, after which it was laid
over under provision of law and the Charter:

Councilman Jones moved the bills and claims against the City in the amounts listed and
itemized in the List of Claims filed with the City Clerk on June 2, 1942, and presented
to the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. The motion was seconded by Coun-

47. Councilman Branscheid moved the Council adjourn to assemble in adjourned regular
