HELD TUESDAY EVENING, NOVEBER 17 1942
Tne meeting convened at C:00 p. 1. with President Godfrey presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen 6rahscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President
‘2, dfrey, (5) , were noted present. Absent: Lone.
MINUTES:
1. The minutes of the regular meeting held November 4, 1942, were approved as
transcribed.
ORAL COMildMICATIONS:
The City Manager addressed the Council with regard to the local transportation
situation and stated that although the staggered-hour program went into effect
November 16, so far the crowded bus condition continued to be had if not worse than
before.
The City Manager also stated that he is attending a meeting with the Key System at
10:00 a. m. next Thursday, to discuss the whole transportation problem and particu-
larly the local transportation between Alameda and Oakland.
Councilman Branscheid then moved the City Manager be instructed to continue his pre-
vious efforts to alleviate this acute transportation condition and to contact the Key
System with. the idea of promoting more efficient coordination of buses. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Howe and unartimously carried.
Mayor Godfrey asked Councilman Dranscheid, as well as any other members of the Council
who would be able, to accompany the City Manager to the coming meeting with the Key
System.
The City hdanager stated there would also be eetlli of the Office of Defense Trans-
portation regarding this proble m. and he reauested Councilman Branscheid and any others
available to attend with him- Courcilman Branscheid stated he would attend these meet-
ings and Councilmen Maurer and Howe stated they would, if it were possible.

3. iiir.FrankGottstein addressed the Council with. r020rd to the possible adoption of
more restricted regulations pertaining to places where liquor is served and sold in
Alameda.
By unanimous consent, this matter was referred to the Committee of the Whole for fur-
ther consideration.
OR INANCES HOE. INTRODUCTION:
4. Councilman Maurer- introduced the following ordinance, after which it was laid
over under provision of law and the Charter:
"Ordinance No.

An Ordinance Leasing the Center Slip at the
Alameda Mole to the United States of America."
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Mayor Godfrey referred to a dwelling which had been moved by ET. George H. Noble
to a certain lot on the north side of Otis Drive and for which removal ET. Noble had
no perait from the Council. This house is still located on the lot to whihch it was
temporarily moved and the City Manager and City Attorney were requested to determine
what could be done to have the house moved to another location. at the earliest moment.

7. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 28
Authorizing Compromise and Settlement in United States
of America vs. 7.66 Acres of Land , etc., Carlo Carlevaro,
et al."
The motion 10 adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and
President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. APsent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolution duly adopted and passed.

Councilman Maurer moved the bills and claims against the City in the amounts listed
and itemized in the List of Claims filed with the City Clerk on November 17, 1942,
and presented. to the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes:
Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Illurer and President Godfrey, (5) . Noes: None,
Absent: None.

adjourned to meet 111 adjourned regular session on. Tuesday evening, November 24,
