HELD TUESDAY EVENFUG, DECEMBER 1 - - - - - - - 1942
The meeting convened at 8:00 p. m. with President Godfrey presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called anA Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President
Godfrey, (5), were noted present. Absent: None,
MINUTES:
1. The minutes of the r,gular meeting held November 17, 1942, and the adjourned regu -
meeting held November 24, 1942, were approved as transcribed.

2. From the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District, requesting the Council to
appoint a member of the Board of Trustees to represent the City of Alameda for a two-
year term beginning J'anuary 2, 1943, at which time the term of George E. Sperbeck, our
present trustee, expires.
There being no objections, the matter was referred. to w.Resolutions".
ORAL COMiiiUNICATIONS:

The City Manager reported verbally that the Government conturp1ates taking over
McKPinley Park., at least that portion used as the football stadium.
ayor Godfrey stated he believed every effort should be put forth to retain this park
as City property.
Councilman Maurer said he felt the attitude of the Council was definitely against let-
ting this site be taken and he moved the City Manager be instructed to use every avail-
able means and take whatever action necessary to assure this park being retained by the
City. The motion was seconded by Councilman Sranscheid and unanimously* carried.

e: Frank Gottstein addressed the Council with regard to the condition of Webster
Street between Tynan Avenue and Posey Tube.
The lity Manager informed him the matter was being attended to.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
From the Mayor, City Manager and Auditor, reporting on the Count of Money held
November 25, 1942, and stating there was the sum of $593,325.83 in the City Treasury
which was the correct amount according to the Auditor's books.
There being no objections, the report was accepted and ordered filed.

O. .isin the City Manager, recommending that contract of Heafey-Moore Co. covering
construction of Encinal Avenue between High Street and Fernside Boulevard, be accepted.
A certificate of acceptance issued by City Engineer George Sperbeck accompanied the '
letter of recommendation.
Councilman. Maurer moved the recommendation of the Cit Manager be adopted and that con-
tract of Heafey-Loore Co. for above specified project be accepted. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Branschejd and unanimously carried.

8. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved its adoption:
"Resolution ha. 2807
Providing for Increased Compensation for Certain
Officers and Employees of the City of Alameda."
The motion to adopt said resolutiot . was seconded. by Counbilman Howe and on roll call.

(4). Noes: President Godfrey, (1) Absent: None. ThRreupon the Mayor declared said
resolution duly adopted and passed.
At this time, Coun(an Howe moved a certified copy of the salary resolution be sent
to the proper Federal Agency for certification. The motion was seconded by. Councilman
Dranschaid and unanimously carried.
9. The following resolution was introduced I - Councilman Maurer, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2808

by the City of Alameda, for Municipal Purposes."

adoption:

The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilman Sranscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and
President Godfrey, (5). hoes: hone. Absent: hone. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolutioo .. duly adopted and passed.
11. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Brans heid, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution. :No. 2810
Authorizing Stipulation in the Case of Uhited States
of America, Plaintiff v. 7.66 Acres of Land, Alam.s.
County, Califo:rnia, City of Alameda, a -Municipal
Corporation, et al., Defendants."
The motion to adopt said resolution wa.s seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Dranscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and •
President Godfrey, (5). Loos: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolution duly adopted and passed.
12. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved °
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2811
Authorizing Stipulation in the Case of United States
of America, Plaintiff v. 7.66 Adres of Land, Alameda
County, California, City of Alameda, a Municipal
Corporation, et al., Defendants."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman "30 and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and

said resolution duly adopted and passed.

BILLS:
17. An itemized List of Claims against the City of Alameda and the Initiative Relief
Fund in the total amount of $63.00, was presented to the City Council.
Councilman Branscheid moved the bills and claims against the City in the amounts listed
and itemized in the List of Claims filed with the City Clerk on December 1, 1942, and
Presented to the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. The motion was seconded
by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen
Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5) . Noes: None. Absent:
one
DJOURNMENT:
18. Councilman Jones moved the Council adjourn to meet in adjourned regular session on
Tuesday evening, December 8, 1942, at 7:30 p. m- The motion was seconded by Councilman
Howe and unanimously carried.
