2. From the Reverend J. Bernard Praugn, Paster of St. Joeph's Curch, requesting
thL closing of San Antonio Avenue to traffic, between Lafayette and Chestnut Sreets,
in such manner as L5 practiced. in the vicinity of Lincoln School, to protect the
children attending St. Joseph's School from the possible hazards or accidents.
There being no objections, this matter was referred to 'the City Manager and Chief of
Police for investigation and report.

4. From. the City Manager, tendering his resignation from the office of City Manager
of the City of Alameda, effective as of January 4, 1943.
The City Manager addressed the Council, expressing his admiration or this Council's
ualifications, his appreciation for the support given him during his association in
t past and the wish. that this Council will continue to give his successor the splen-
did cooperation which has been afforded nim.
Mr. Schwanenberg stated that he believed the aKperience he had gained while City
Manager of Alameda had made it possible for him. to step up to a mere responsible office.
Mayor Godfrey said that in this instance the Council had no alternative but to accept
Mr. Schwanenberg's resignation as City Manager and could only release him and offer
sincere congratulations and hopes for his future success.
Mr. Frank Gottstein then addressed the Council, commending Mr. Schwanenberg and offer
ing him any assistance that he might be able to give in the future.
'uncilman Maurer then moved the resignation of Charles R.. Schwanenberg as City Manager

motion was seconded by Councilman Branscheid and on all call carried by the following
