The meeting convened at 8:00 o m. with President Godfrey presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen. Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President
Godfrey, (5) , were noted present. Absent: None.
MINDTEdB:
1. The minutes of the regular meeting held December 15 19 the adjourned regular
meeting held December 22, 1942, and the special meeting held December 30, 1942, were
approved as transcribed.
RAPORTS OF COMISITTEES:
2 From the Board of Education, protesting against any attempt to convert Thompson
ield, MeNjuley Park, into any other use than that of an athletic field, regardless of
the Federal Government's desire to utilize this site for other purposes.
There being no objections, the communication was ordered filed.
so From former City Manager Charles R. c-rc recommending that Poldce Officer
Joseph. Bertrand attend a basic military transportation scIlool to be held at the Univer-
sity of California from January 11 to 16, 1943, inclusive, and that an amount not to
exceed be appropriated -Cor his expenses.
Councilman Jones moved the recommendation of the former City Manager be accepted and
that an amount not to exceed $40. be allowed for Officer Bertrand's expenses. It was
aLoo stipulated that all claims should be supported by a statement shuilirig the nature
and amount of the expenditures. The motion. was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Sranscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer
and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: hone.

4. 'Tram former City Manager Chardes R. Schwanenberg, recommending the City Yianager
be authorized to rent or lease to various governmental agencies certain Street Depart-
ent equipment that is '33 3'3 the time being used.
Councilman Maurer moved. the recommendation of Mr. Schwanenberg be accepted and that
unused.. Street Department equipment be rented or leased. to the United States Government
at such times as it is hot being used by the City. The motion was seconded by Council-
man Jones and unanimously carried.
). From. the Public Utiles Beesrd, requesting tnat an. ordinance be adopted by the
City oT Alameda, prohibiting the use and/or possession by persons of firearms, air
rifl sling shots, etcetera.
There being no objections, the matter was referred to "Ordinances for o-. «,
. 415 of the former City Ibanager and tbe Chief of Police as to the Proper
expenditure of moneys contained in the Police Secret :Fund of the City of Alameda. during
the period from October 22, 1942, to December 31, 1942.
There being no objections, the Affidavit was ordered iled.
