1943-01-12 Regular CC Minutesn2, ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY. 12, 1943 The meeting convened at 7:30 p. m. with President Godfrey presiding. ROLL CALL: The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5), were noted present. Absent: None. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: v/ 1. From the East Bay Division of League of California Cities, giving notice of its next dinner meeting to be held Friday evening, January 15, 1943, at the Hotel Leaming- ton, Oakland. The City Clerk was requested to make the necessary reservations for those who wish to attend. 2. From Bethlehem-Alameda Shipyard, Inc., requesting the Council to grant a temporary revocable permit for the construction of two buildings to be utilized as a Trade School and cafeteria on certain property north of Tynan Avenue between the Southern Pacific right-of-way and Webster Street. The proposed construction of these buildings is in conflict with the Uniform Building Code of the City and the requirements for structures in Fire Zone No. 1, in which the property lies. The Building Inspector and. Fire Chief were present and explained to the Council the violations of the ordinances which come under their supervision. After discussion, Councilman Jones moved the request for permission to construct the above mentioned buildings be denied and that the proper explanation of the reasons for the denial be submitted by the City Attorney to the Bethlehem-Alameda Shipyard, Inc. The motion was seconded by Councilman Branscheid and unanimously carried. 3. From the Alameda Belt Line, requesting permission to construct, maintain and operate a spur track across Grand Street, to serve a storage yard of the Pacific Bridge Company. There being no objections, the matter was referred to "Resolutions". RESOLUTIONS: 4. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2823 Authorizing Execution of Rental Agreement with Johnson, Drake & Piper, Inc., Covering on Ten- Ton Huber Gasoline Roller." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 5. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2824 Granting Permit to Alameda Belt Line to Construct, Maintain and Operate a Railroad Spur Track Across Grand Street in the City of Alameda." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. 6. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 2825 Adopting Specifications for Operating Refreshment Concession in Washington Park and Lincoln Park for the Period Commencing January 1, 1943 and Ending December 31, 1943." The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Howe and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted and passed. ORDINANCES FOR PASSAGE: 7. "Ordinance No. 821, New Series An Ordinance Amending the Alameda Municipal Code by Adding to Article 1, Chapter 5, Title XVI Thereof Two New Sections Numbered, Respectively, 16-516 and 16-517, Relating to Sling Shots and Firearms and Air Rifles." Councilman Maurer moved the ordinance be adopted as read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Branscheid and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. 8. Councilman Councilman Branscheid FILING: "Ordinance No. 822, New Series An Ordinance Amending the Alameda Municipal Code by Adding Subdivision (26) to Section 17-341 Thereof." Howe moved the ordinance be adopted as read. The motion was seconded by Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen , Howe, Jones, Maurer and President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. 9. Auditor's Balance Sheet - Month ending December 31, 1942. 10. Specifications - For operating Concession in Washington and Lincoln Parks. ADJOURNMENT: 11.
