ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD MONDAY EVENING, JANUARY 25, 1943
The meeting convened at 7:30 p. m. with President Godfrey presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and President
Godfrey, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
1. From the Alameda Chapter of American Red Cross, with reference to the lack of
proper sanitation in some of the older houses in the City.
There being no objections, this matter was referred to the City Manager, to be brought
to the attention of Mr. Don C. McMillan after February 1, 1943, when he shall have
assumed his duties as City Manager.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:

2. From the City Manager, advising that he does not believe it advisable to block
off San Antonio Avenue between Lafayette and Chestnut Streets for the protection of
school children attending St. Joseph's School. The request so to do was presented
from the Pastor of St. Joseph's Church, the Reverend Bern. Praught. The City Manager
also informed the Council it is intended to repaint the pedestrian cross lines and
curbs as soon as possible.
Councilman Branscheid moved the recommendation of the City Manager be adopted and the
Pastor of St. Joseph's Church be so advised. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Howe and unanimously carried.
RESOLUTIONS:
3. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Maurer, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2827
Approving First Supplemental Memorandum of
Agreement for Expenditure of 1/4 Cent Gas Tax
Allocated for Streets of Major Importance."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Branscheid and on roll
call carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer
and. President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolution duly adopted and passed.
4. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Howe, who moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 2828
Calling General Municipal Election to be Held in the
City of Alameda on March 9, 1943; Establishing Election
Precincts: Fixing Number of Election Officers on the
Board of Election for Each Precinct: And. Fixing Com-
pensation of Election Officers."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and
President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolution duly adopted and passed.
5. The following resoldtion was introduced by Councilman Branscheid, who moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 2829
Submitting to the Qualified Electors of the City of
Alameda Proposals to Amend the Charter of the City of
Alameda, to be voted upon at the General Municipal
Election to be held in said City on Tuesday, March 9,1943."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Jones and on roll call
carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Jones, Maurer and
President Godfrey, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared
said resolution duly adopted and passed.

6. Financial Statement - Goodell, Byers & Henry - Bureau of Electricity,
as of December 31, 1943.
ADJOURNMENT:
7. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to assemble in
regular session on Tuesday evening, February 2, 1943, at 8:00 p. m.
