HELD TUESDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 25th, .. 1938
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with Vice-President Godfrey presiding.
The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey and Maurer, (3), were noted
present. Absent: Councilman Morris and President Weichhart, (2).
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:

A communication was presented from the Honorable Albert E. Carter, acknowledging copy of
Resolution No. 2291 relative to the replacement of the Fruitvale Avenue Bridge. The commu-
nication was ordered filed.
(2. From the War Department, United States Engineers Office, informing the Council that an
application had been made by the Southern Pacific Company for the periodical closing to
passage of vessels of the Fruitvale Avenue Bridge during certain hours of the day, and
inviting submission of views of interested parties to be filed not later than November 10,
1938. The communication was referred to the City Attorney with request that he prepare
a resolution to be presented to the next meeting of the Council.
HEARINGS:
Application of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for a franchise for transmitting
and distributing gas within the City of Alameda. The Clerk reported that no protests,
either in writing or otherwise, had been received and there were no protestants present
at the meeting. The matter was referred to "Ordinances for Introduction".
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
From Mayor Weichhart, submitting to the Council the nomination of Mr. Chester C.
Stutt, 1330 St. Charles Street, Alameda, for the office of member of the City Planning
Board for a term expiring on June 30, 1939. The communication was referred to "Resolu-
tions".

and Assigns, the Franchise to Use, for Transitting and Distributing Gas
within the City of Alameda for Any and All Purposes Other Than Those
Authorized Under Section 19 of Article XI of the Constitution of the State
of California as Said Section Existed Prior to Its Amendment on October
10, 194, All Gas Pipes and Appurtenances Which Are Now or May Hereafter
Be Lawfully Placed in the Public Streets, Ways and Places Within Said
City, And to Lay and Use in Said Public Streets, Ways and Places All Pipes
and Appurtenances Necessary or Proper For Said Purposes",

13. Councilman Carrington moved that the meeting be adjourned in respect to the memory
of Mr. Harry P. Stow, former member of the City Planning Board, seconded by Councilman
Maurer and unanimously carried.
14. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned to meet in regular session
on Tuesday evening, November 1st, 1938, at 8 o'clock P.M.
