1934-01-16 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY 16th, 1934
- The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Bruzzone, Eschen, Leydecker, Morris and. Presi
dent Murray (5) were noted present Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of January 2, 1934, were read and approved.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
1. Mr. Ferretti addressed the Council in reference to penalties of delinquent taxes.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
V2.4/ From the City Planning Commission recommending the denial of petition for reclas-
sification of property known as 1907 Buena Vista Avenue from Residence District, Class
II, to Business District, Class III, for the purpose of operating a bakery, and that
the Council grant a revokable permit to the applicants for the operation of a bakery.
On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone, and unanimously
carried, the recommendation was adopted and a temporary revokable permit for a six
months' period was granted.
1,-4•i/ From the Auditor and. Assessor, submitting a list of the last known owners and
description of their property sold to the City of Alameda for non-payment of taxes
for the fiscal year 1932-1933, and informing the Council that ordinance No. 250,N.S.
requires that this list be published once in the official newspaper of the City. On
motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carries,,
the publication was authorized.
/4./ From Disabled American Veterans of the World War, extending an invitation to the
Council to attend a joint public installation of officers for 1934, for Alameda
Chapter No. 8, and Hayward Chapter #34, on Wednesday evening, January 17,1934. The
communication was ordered filed.
V -5./ From the City Manager,, recommending that Miss Marilla Schergen be employed as
Director of the Children's May Day Fete. On motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded
by Councilman Morris, the recommendation was adopted and the City Manager authorized
to make arrangements at an expense not to exceed $150.004 by the following Vote:
Ayes, Councilmen Bruzzone, Eschen, Morris and President Murray (4). Noes, None.
Not Voting, Councilman Leydecker, (1). Absent: None.
v/6.// From W. L. Chadwick, in reference to laws and ordinances pertaining to delin-
quent taxes. The communication was referred to the City Attorney.
UNFINISHED BUSETESS:
The City Engineer was asked for a report on the bids for furnishing and instal-
ling a deep well turbine pump and pressure tank at Franklin Park, which were opened
at the last meeting of the Council, January 2,1934. His recommendation was that all
bids be rejected and on motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris
and unanimously carried, the recommendation was adopted and the City Clerk instructed
to return the certified checks to the bidders, and authorized to purchase the equip-
ment in open market at a cost not to exceed $950.00.
NEW BUSINESS:
v 8.' Councilman Otto A. Leydecker presented his resignation, to be effective immed-
iately, and on motion of Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Eschen and unani-
mously carried, it was accepted with regret.
RESOLUTIONS:
9 Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1816
Transferring $2500.00 from the Electric
Light Fund to the General Fund".
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
10• Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1817
Transferring $4,154.07 from the Electric
Light Fund to the General Fund."
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
1 11. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1818
Transferring $50,000.00 from the Electric
Light Fund to the General Fund."
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.

Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
V -13. Councilman. Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1820
Declaring Necessity and Authorizing the
Construction of Certain Public Improvements."
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.

Councilman Eschen moved that the ordinance as read be not adopted, seconded. by Council-
van Bruzzone and on roll call carried unanimously.

On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris, the bills
were, on roll call, passed unanimously, with the exception that Councilman
Bruzzone did not vote on the bills of Baker-Hamilton-Pacific Company.
There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned, to meet
in regular session Tuesday evening, February 6th, 1934, at 8 o'clock.
