HELD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 17th 1935
The meeting convened at 3 o'clock P.M. with President Roebke presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President
Roebke, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
V 1. From the gncinal Yacht Club, approving the construction'of a'Municipal Yacht Harbor.
The communication was ordered filed*
/2. From the Alameda Women's Civic Club requesting the retention of Walter P. Koetitz
as City Manager. The communication was ordered filed.
83. Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that a petition signed by
a-number of voters of Alameda, urging that Walter P. Koetitz be retained as City Manager,
be filed, and not read; thereupon. Councilman Morris moved an aMendment to the motion,
seconded by Councilman Eschen, that the petition be read. On roll call the motion as
amended failed by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Noes:
Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke,(3). Absent: None.
oi.J An invitation from Leo P. Purcell, announcing opening of his Swimming Plunge, on

Sunday, April 21st, 1935, The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Purdell and tell'
him that as many Councilmen as possible would attend the opening of his swimming pool.
The communication was ordered filed.

5. ' From H. Albert George, presenting claim against the City of Alameda in the sum of
$125.00 for two weeks' salary from April 16, 1935, to and including April 30, 1935. The
communidation was ordered filed.
U*FINISHED BUSINESS:
6. Various petitions from a number of organizations and groups of citizens in the
City of Alameda, requesting retention of Walter P. Koetitz as City Manager. Councilman
Morris moved that the petition be read, seconded by Councilman Eschen, and failed by the
following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Noes, Councilmen Broyles,
Munro and President Roebke,(3). Absent; None.
RESOLUTIONS:
Councilman Munro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1930
Awarding Vacation Allowance to Former City Attorney"
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call carried unanimously.
03. Councilman Munro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1931
Thanking Musicians' Union and Max Nelson"
Councilman Broyles seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: CounciImm Broyles, Munro and President Roebke,(3).Noes: None. Not Voting, Council-
men Eschen and Morris, (2). Absent: None. The Clerk was instructed to write letters of
thanks to the Musicians' Union and to Max Nelson.

"Resolution No. 1932
Appointing W. J. Justin Insurance Advisor".
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Broyes, Munro and President. Roebke, (3). Noes:Councilmen Eschen and Morris,
(2). Absent: None.
v10. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1933
Authorizing and Directing the City Manager to
Make Applications to the Emergency Relief
Administration of the State of California for
Emergency Projects Under the Control of the
City of Alameda."
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried unanimously.
ill./ Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1934
Declaring the Office of City Clerk Vacant."

Councilman Munro seconded the motion, whereupon Councilman Morris addressed the Council
on the retention of Mr. Dyer as City Clerk. On roll call the resolution carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and. President Roebke, (3). Noes: Counc31
men Eschen and Morris (2). Absent: None.
V12. v The Chair of the City Clerk was then turned over to the City Attorney, who act-
ed as Clerk pro tem, and Councilmsn Munro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1935
Appointing Herbert R. Connor City Clerk".
The motion was seconded by Councilman Broyles; thereupon Councilman Morris offered
an anendment, seconded by Councilman Eschen, that the resolution be tabled until
further consideration could be given to the appointment of a City Clerk, and on roll
call the motion, as'amended lost by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Eschen and
Morris, (2). Noes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Absent:
None. President Roebke thereupon gave the Oath of Office to Herbert R. Connor as
City Clerk, Councilman Morris addressed the Council concerning the fitness of the
candidate.
113/ Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1936
Approving the Bond of the City Clerk"
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried unanimously.
BILLS:
14. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several depart-
ments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council:
General Departments, $3943.73; Police Department, $126,96; Fire Department, $250.91;
Street Department, 01407.22; Health Department, 0163.19; Park Department, 01035.31;
Golf Course Department, $472.82; Store Department, $2456.48; Social Service-Recreation
Department, $68.10; Initiative Relief Fund, '4.00; Compensation Insurance Fund, 46.66;
Street Improvement Fund, $210.06.
Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, and on roll call unanimously
carried, that the claims and bills against the City in the amounts as listed and
itemized in the List of Claims against the City of Alameda, filed with the City
Clerk on April 16th, 1935, and presented to the Council at the adjourned regular
meeting of April 17th, 1935, be allowed and paid.
15. There being no further business to transact, on motion of Councilman Broyles,
seconded by Councilman Munro and unanimously carried, the Council adjourned to meet
in adjourned regular session on Wednesday evening, April 24th, at 7 o'clock, P.M.
