The meeting convened at 11 o'clock A.M. with President Roebke presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3)
were noted present. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
v 1. From J. Franklyn Smith, stating that he is a property owner and tax-payer
and a resident of the City of Alameda, and has been for the past 15 years, and is
not a resident of Oakland, as so stated in the June'6th, 19354 issue of the Alameda
Times-Star. The communication was ordered, filed.
2. From J. Franklyn Smith, regarding publishing of the tax list, and the suit
filed by a Mrs. Floyd, who is the mother of an employee of the Alameda Times-Star.
The communication was ordered filed.
4.3. From Julius Seegall, regarding work on the recent survey of old hulks in the
Alameda and Oakland harbors. The matter was referred to the City Manager for dis-
position.
• 4. //From the Department of Public Utilities, regarding continuation of the munici-
pal bus lines. The matter was referred to the City Attorney.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
• 5. Frorathe City Attorney, reporting back to the Council on the application to
the Public Works Administration for a grant and loan of 02,500,000.00 for the pur-
pose of constructing a sub-aqueous railway tunnel under the San Antonio Estuary
to connect with the Seventh Street line in Oakland, and thence to the Transbay
Bridge. On motion of Councilman Broyles, seconded by Councilman Munro, the report
was ordered filed.
/6•' From the City Attorney, reporting that the requested donation by the Veterans
of Foreign Wars for 075.00 to defray the expenses of a drill team being sent to
Bakersfield, would be unconstitutional. The reauest was made at the regular meeting
of the Council of June 4th, 1935. The communication was ordered filed.
/7• ./ From the City Manager, notifying the Council that 'the wage scale submitted
at the regular meeting of June 4th, 1935, by the Building Trades Council, has been
approved for all County contract work. A motion was made by Councilman Broyles,
seconded by Councilman Munro,that this wage scale be adopted by the City of Alamda;
and on roll call passed by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and.
President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
RESOLUTIONS:
8. Councilmen Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1958
Requesting the County to Paint a Stripe Down the
Center of Maitland Drive."
Councilman Munro seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following
vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None.
Absent: Councilmen Esohen and Morris, (2).
9. Councilman Mnnro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1959
Transferring Money from the Compensation Insurance
Fund to the General Fund."
Councilman Broyles seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following
vote: Ayes, Councilmen Broyles, Munro and. President Roebke, (3). Noes: None.
Absent, Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
10. Councilman Munro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1960
Transferring 43,250.00 from the General Fund to the
Bond Interest and Redemption Fund,"
Councilman Broyles seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following
vote: Ayes, Councilmen Broyles, Munro and. President Roebke, (3). Noes: None.
Absent: Councilmen Esohen and Morris, (2)
11. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1961
Cancelling Certain Warrants and Interest Coupons.",
Councilman Munro seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following
vote: Ayes, Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None.
Absent: Councilmen Esohen and Morris, (2).
ORDINANCES PASSED:
12. "Ordinance No.
New Series -
An Ordinance Prescribing the Order of Business
and Rules of Order for Council Meetings, and
Repealing Sections 2-115 and 2-116 of the Alameda
Municipal Code."
Councilman Munro moved that the ordinance be tabled, seconded by Councilman Broyles,
and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Broyles, Munro and.
President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris (2).
13. "Ordinance No.
New Series
Amending Sec. 17-323 of the Alameda Municipal
Code so as to Permit Diagonal Parking on the
Southern Side of Central Avenue between Oak
and Walnut Streets,"
Councilman Broyles moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Council-
man Munro and on roll call passed by the following vote; Ayes, Councilmen Broyles,
Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschan and Morris,
(2).
ORDINANCE INTRODUCED:
14. The following Ordinance was introduced and laid over under provision of the
Charter:
"Ordinance No.
New Series
An Ordinance Amending Section 2-111 of the Alameda
Municipal Code, so as to Provide that the Regular
Meetings of the Council Shall be Held at Maven
o'clock in the Morning, instead of Eight o'clock in
the evening, "

15. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several depart-
ments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council:
General Departments, $4,265.36; Police Department, $36.58; Fire Department, $213.64;
Street Department, $1952.16; Health Department,$168.80; Park Department, $1087.07;
Golf Course Department, $816.81; Store Department, $2229.69; Social Service-Recreation
Department, 0104.28; Initiative Relief Fund, 08.00; Street Improvement Fund,4143.81;
East Bay Mtn,Utility District Payments Fund, $2475.80.
Councilman Munro moved, seconded by Councilman Broyles, that the-claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims against
the City of Alameda, filed with the City Clerk on June 19th, 1935, and presented to
the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3)
Noes: None. Absent, Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
16. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in
adjourned regular session on Tuesday morning, June 25th, 1935, at 11 o'clock A.M.
