HELD TUESDAY EVENING, Ally 2nd ........ 1935
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with President Roebke presiding.
The roll was called and Gouncilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President
Roebke (5) were noted present.
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 18th, the adjourned regular meeting
of Jute 19th and the adjourned regular meeting of June 25th, 1935, were read and
approved.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
A.v Mr. Augustin C. Keane presented and read a communication as Attorney for the
vBoard of Public Utilities Commissioners in regard to the rezoning of property at the
corner of Buena Vista Avenue and Grand Street, It was moved by Councilman Broyles,
seconded by Couhcilman Munro, that the matter be referred to the City Planning Com-
mission. Ah amendment was moved by Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris,
that the resolution presented by the Board of Public Utilities Commissioners be
substituted in toto for the previous motion. Upon roll call the amendment carried
unanimously. The previous question was then put, and upon roll call it carried un-
animously.
2. Councilman Morris addressed the Council on the condition of the City Treasury,
3, Mr. E. W. Patterson addressed the Counoil on the matter of the Charter League
and the City Clerk acting as Secretary thereof.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
V4 / From the City Manager submitting copy of his letter addressed to Capt. Richard
J. Werner, Commanding Officer of Company F, 159th Infantry, National Guard, regarding
the disorderly condition of the Armory at Washington Park. The communication was
ordered filed.
e5,y From the City Manager, recommending that the salary of the Clerk and Stenographer
in the office of the Auditor and Assessor be fixed at *115.00 per month. A motion
was made by Councilman Munro, seconded by Councilmen Broyles, and on roll call un-
animously carried, that the City Manager's recommendation be adopted and that this
salary adjustment take place immediately.
4/ From the Alameda Woman's Improvement Club, protesting the changing of the
Council meetings from evening to morning sessions. The communication was ordered
filed.
h. From Fernside Home Owners Association, regarding the property formerly reclas-
sified for the purpose of permitting the Owens Illinois Glass Co. to erect a glass
plant. This property is located at the northeast corner of Versailles Avenue and.
Fernside Boulevard, and it is the request of the Fernside Association that the
Council take steps to place this property back into Class I, its former status.
Upon motion of Councilman Broyles, seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call
unanimously carried, the matter was referred to the City Attorney.

VB. From the Board of Public Utilities, calling the Council's attention to plan
and report of the proposed sub-aqueous tunnel having been referred to by the City
Attorney as having been approved by the Board of Public Utilities, whereas neither
has as yet been so approved. The communication was ordered filed.
Vb./ From Vern Smith, Chief of Police, submitting list of lost, stolen and unclaimed
property in the possession of the Alameda Police Department, in accordance with
Article 1, Chapter 4 of the Alameda Municipal Code. The coMmunication was ordered
filed.
U./ From W. J. Justin, submitting locations of two pieces of property for the
proposed electric sub-station to be erected by the Department of Public Utilities.
On motion of Councilman Munro, seconded by Councilman Broyles, and on roll call
unanimously carried, the matter was referred to the Board of Public Utilities Com-
missioners.
t41/ Prom the City Manager, notifying the Council that the Police and Fire Commission
has taken no definite action in the matter of reinstating the three fireMen who
were last dismissed, other than reiterating that in the budget they had asked for
six additional men for the Fire Department. The communication was ordered filed.
/12.v From the City Manager regarding continuation of S.E.R.A. rodent extermination,
and referring to a resolution to be introduced later, granting officers of the
Health Department the right to enter upon private property. The matter was defer-
red to "Resolutions", and the communication was filed.
T3,v From the City Manager, requesting that a special fund be created by the Council
for the handling of the City of Alameda's allocation of Gas Tax money. The matter
was deferred to "Resolutions," and the communication was filed.
\AA. From a number of residents in the vicinity of 9th Street, Alameda, extending
their appreciation for the recently completed improvements of tbe sea wall and steps
leading to the beaches. The communication was ordered filed.
,4(15.1 From the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners, submitting rules and regulations
adopted by that Board with reference to special police officers. It was moved by
Councilmen Broyles, seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call carried unanimously,
that the matter of the communication and the rules and regulations of the Board of
Police and Fire Commissioners, relating to the regulations of special police officers,
be referred to the City Attorney.

18. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1965
A Resolution Authorizing the City of Alameda
to File an Application to the United States
of America through the Federal Emergency Ad-
ministration of Public Works for a Loan and
Grant to Aid in Financing the Construction of
a- Sub-aqueous Single Track Electric Railway
Tunnel under and across the San Antonio Estuary,
running from the Alameda Side Near the Eastern
Boundary of the Alameda Airport; with a Single
Track Electric Railway Running Northerly to the
Existing Tracks on Seventh Street, in the City
of Oakland, and Designating Wm. J. Locke, City
Attorney, George E. Sperbeck, City Engineer,
and Fred J. Croll, City Auditor, to furnish
such information as the Government May Request",

near Webster Street in the City of Alameda, and

Councilman Broyles seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following

Councilman Broyles moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Councilman

Councilman Munro moved, seconded by Councilman Broyles, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims against
the City of Alameda filed with the City Clerk on July 2nd, 1935, and presented to
the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President'
Roebke, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
27. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet
in regular session on Tuesday morning, July 16th, at 11 o'clock A.M.
