COMMUNICATIONS:
Vl.v A communication was presented from F. J. Croll, Auditor and Assessor, sub-
mitting assessment figures of the City of Alameda for the year 1935, and the
report was ordered filed.
v' From the West End. Merchants Association, notifying the Council that their
organization is definitely in favor of the building of the Municipal Yacht Harbor
close to the previous Alameda Yacht Harbor. The communication zs referred to
the City Manager.
13, From the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners with regard to various
members of the Police and Fire Departments requesting the Council to restore
former salary schedule. The comminication was ordered filed.
4/ From the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners relative to restoring
salaries in the Police and Fire Department, The communication was ordered filed.
45•/ From W. H. Williams, requesting a gratuitous license to sell novelties in
Alameda, stating that he is an ex service man. Councilman Broyles moved,
seconded by Council 4n Munro, that the matter be referred to the City Manager.
An amendment was offered by Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris,
that the matter be referred to the City Attorney, and on roll call lost by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Noes: Councilmen
Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Absent: None. The original motion
was then ()ailed and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen
Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris,
(2). Absent: None.
6. Councilmen Broylea introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1972
Transferring $500.00 from the General Fund to
the Interest and Redemption Fund",
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following
vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5)4
Noes: None. Absent: None,
7. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of the following resol-
ution:
"Resolved that the office of the
City Manager be Declared Vacant."
Councilman Broyles offered an amendment that any charges made against any City
official be verified under oath and filed with the Clerk, in accordance with
Section 2-112 of the Alameda Municipal Code, seconded by Councilman Munro, and
on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro
and President Roebke, (3). Noes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Absent:
None. The original motion was then put, and lost by the following vote:

ORDINANCES FOR PASSAGE:
8. Ordinance No.
New Series.
Determining that Funds are Needed for the
Current Fiscal Year, and. Authorizing the Council
on Behalf of the City, to Borrow One Hundred.
Thousand. Dollars in Anticipation of Income."
Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the ordinance as read be
adopted, and on roll call lost by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles,
Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
Absent: None. Being an emergency measure and not having received the necessary
four-fifths vote, as required by the Charter, the ordinance failed of passage.
BILLS:
9. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several de-
partments thereof, in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City
Council: General Departments, $2339.05; Police Department, $49,38; Fire Department
$139.60; Street Department, $92,17; Health Department, $74.82; Park Department,
$190.82; Golf Course Department, $403.33; Stare Department, $2044.61; Social
Service Department, $40.96; Street Improvement Fund, $147.89; Gas Tax Fund,
$14,448.05.
Councilman Munro moved, seconded by Councilman Eschen, that the claims and.
Bills against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of
Claims against the City of Alameda filed with the City Clerk on July 23, 1935,
and presented to the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. On roll
call this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles,
Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5) Noes: None. Absent:
None.
10. There being no further business to transa t the Council adjourned to
meet in regular session on Tuesday morning, August 1935, at 11:00 o'clock.
