HELD T.psp4 MORNING, AUGUST 27th • ....... 1935
The meeting convened at 11 o'clock A.M. with President Roebke presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3), were
noted present. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
COMMUNICATIONS:
4. /From the City Manager, recommending that bids be advertised for the sale and removal
of the Alfred Pye home at the corner of Peru Street and San Antonio Avenue, Which was
recently purchased by the City of Alameda. Councilman Munro moved that the City Managers
recommendation be adopted, seconded by CouncilmAn Broyles and on roll call carried by
the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes:
None. -Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
/ From F. J. Croll, Auditor and Assessor, submitting his financial report for 1934-
1935. Councilman Broyles moved that the report be filed, seconded by Councilman Munro
and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and
President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
From the City Manager, recommending that the Chief of the Fire Department be allow-
ed to attend the Convention of the Pacific Coast Association of Fire Chiefs to be held
in Sacramento on September 9, 10, 11 and 12, and that the sum of $25.00 be allowed to
cover expenses of this trip. Councilman Broyles moved that the request be granted,
seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Coundilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen
Eschen and Morris, (2).
RESOLUTIONS and ORDINANCES INTRODUCED:
4. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1982
Fixing the Salaries of the Officers and Members
of the Following Departments: Auditor and Assessor,
Building Inspector, City Clerk, City Attorney, Ad-
ministrative Department, Golf Course, Social
Service, Parks and Playgrounds, Street, Health,
Pound, Treasurer and Tax Collector of the City of
Alameda,"
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call passed by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3 ). Noes: None. Absent:
Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
5. Councilman Munro introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1983
Fixing the Salaries and Establishing the Number of
the Members of the Police and Fire Departments of the City
of Alameda",
Councilman Broyles seconded the motion and on roll call passed by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent:
Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
v6. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of the following motion:
"RESOLVED, that the City Manager be instructed to notify
the Police and Fire Commissioners that, in order to
avoid a possible judgment against the City a Alameda
in the sum of approximately $18,000.00 as back pay for
firemen alleged to have been illegally discharged by
a former City Manager, the Council will provide funds for
the payment of salaries of these three firemen when the
Board of Police and Fire Commissioners restores these
men to their positions",
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3 ), Noes: None. Absent:
Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
7. The following Ordinances were introduced and laid over under provision of the
Charter:

Amending Section 709 of the Uniform Building Code of
1927, Adopted by Ordinance No. 387, New Series, as
Amended by Ordinance No. 535, New Series"

An Ordinance Regulating the Operation and Main-
tenance of Laundry Establishments for the City
of Alameda",
It was moved by Councilman Munro that the ordinance be introduced at this meeting,
and that the matter be forthwith taken up with the City Attorney for his opinion,
seconded by Councilman Broyles and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Council-
men Eschen and Morris, (2).
BILLS:
9. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the General Departments
thereof in the total amount as follows, was presented to the City Council: 380.00.
Councilman Munro moved, seconded by Councilman Broyles, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amount as listed and itemized in the List of Claims against
the City of Alameda filed with the City Clerk on August 27th, 1935, and presented to
the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebe (3).
Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2).
10. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in.
