1932-11-15 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
TUESDAY EVENING, NOVEMTER 15, 1932.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P. M. with Council - president Murray presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Leydecker, Morris, Shanly, Schaefer and President Murray
(5) were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of November 1, 1932 were approved as read.
COMMIJNICATIONS:
The following communications were received:
From the League of California Municipalities notifying the Council of the organization of the
East Bay League of Municipalities on October 19, 1932, and enclosing a copy of the Articles of the
Association of the League, indicating that the purpose of the organization is to afford occasions
whereat City Officials of Alameda and Contra Costa County may meet to discuss matters of mutual
interest. Mr. Schaefer introduced a motion that the Council endorse the League and the purposes
for which it was formed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Morris and on roll call carried
unanimously.
From the Veterans' Welfare Board of the State of California accompanying a petition for the
cancellation of taxes levied on certain real estate within the City of Alameda of which the
Veterans' Welfare Board has become the owner. Without objection, the communication was ordered
referred to the City Assessor and the City Attorney for attention.
.,, From A. P. Black, attorney at law, notifying the Council of an alleged fictitious street
indicated on an old county map through the property of Dr. F. W. Vowinckel on Pacific Avenue, and
requesting the Council to pass an order closing the street mentioned, known as West End Avenue.
There being no objection, the communication was referred to the City Attorney for attention.
4. fr. From the Railroad Commission of the State of California referring to certain petitions
filed with the Commission urging that the transbay fares be reduced and that a form of commutation
fare be provided to accommodate those not employed full time, indicating that a conference had
been held by the Commission with the representatives of the Key System, Ltd. and the Southern
Pacific Company to discuss the general situation and enclosing tabulations furnished by the
transportation companies showing the results of operations on their respective lines for a number
of years past. In view of the fact that the City Manager has had the subject of this communica-
tion under consideration for some time past, the communication was without objection referred to
him.
NEW BUSINESS:
5. V-4 Mr. Shanly called the attention of the Council to the fact that a serious condition dangerous
to traffic exists at the intersection of Fourth Street and Central Avenue as the intersection is
at present constructed, and moved that the City Manager and the City Engineer be requested to
inquire into the situation with a view to remedying the present conditions. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Leydecker and .a.. Isr -ai= carried unanimously.
RESOLUTIONS:

Mr. Schaefer introduced and moved the adoption of -
"Resolution No. 1704
Transferring $3,659.94 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Mr. Morris seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted and
passed unanimously.
7. ` Mr. Leydecker introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1705
Authorizing Installation of Parking Sign on East Side
of Chestnut Street Fifty Feet South of Encinal Avenue."
Mr. Shanly seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted and
passed unanimously.
ORDINANCE FOR INTRODUCTION:
The following ordinance was introduced and laid over under a provision of the Charter.

FILING:
"Ordinance No. , New Series.
Repealing Ordinance No. 228 N.S. Entitled "An Ordinance Prohibiting
the Sale, Manufacture, Transportation or Unlawful Possession of
Intoxicating Liquors, and Providing Penalties for Violation Hereof.'"
The City Clerk stated that since the last meeting of the Council the following paper had been
filed.

There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular
