1933-08-01 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY EVENING, AUGUST 1, 1933.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council President Murray presiding,
The roll was called and Councilmen Leydecker, Morris, Shanly, Vice President Eschen and President
Murray, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of July 18th, 1933, were read and approved.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
1.V From the Central Labor Council of Alameda County, in reference to trans-bay commutation rates.
The communication was ordered filed.
2.V From Unemployed Unit No. 1, in reference to omitting sanitary inspection fee. The communication was
ordered referred to the City Manager.
3. / From League of California Municipalities, informing the Council that the National Industrial Recov-
ery Act is not intended to include either City or State employees. . The communication was ordered filed.
4. , Two unsigned communications, apparently from Mr. B. F. Lamborn. Ordered filed.
/ 5./ From Mayor William F. Murray, informing the Council that he had appointed to the Board of Public
Utilities Mr. John M. O'Dea and Mr. E. S. Cunningham, to fill existing vacancies. On motion of Councilren
Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, the appointments were confirmed.
6./ From the City Manager, Ralph M. Bryant, informing the Council that despite the reduced tax rate of
01.45 for the fiscal year 1932-33, owing to an economical administration and the cooperation of the
various departments, the fiscal year closed with all outstanding bills and obligations paid, and the
surplus amount of 414,843.36 returned to the General Fund. The communication was ordered filed.
7•1 From the City Manager, informing the Council that proposals had been received to furnish engineer-
ing and expert services to go into all details to determine the feasibility and desirability of ac-
quiring the distributing system now owned by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The following
proposals were received:
Jones Gas Process Corp. 41500.00
Edward G. Hussey 11000.00
Ford, Bacon & Davis 04,00040000Q 10000.00
Skinner & Dewhirst 12500.00.
On motion of Councilman Shanly, seconded by Councilman Eschen and unanimously carried, the Mayor was
authorized to sign a contract in behalf of the City with the Jones Gas Process Corp., for the sum of
41500.00 for the necessary services.
8.1 From Trask & Squier Co. submitting a proposal to purchase from the City of Alameda 168 small,
double tier second-hand lockers, 12" x 18" x 36" in size, which are now stored in the Municipal Light
Plant. On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, the
City Manager was authorized to consumate the sale.
NEW BUSINESS:
V 9./ On motion of Councilman &schen, seconded by Councilman Shanly, and unanimously carried, the
application for license to sell alcoholic beverages of Harry S. Christensen, 1423 Santa Clara Avenue,
was approved.
RESOLUTIONS:
10. Councilman Shanly introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1780
Resolution of Acceptance and Consent to Recordation"
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it carried unanimously.
11. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1781
Resolution Urging Secretary of War to Give Preference
to Citizens of Alameda for Employment in all Contracts
Pertaining to the Construction Work at Benton Field."
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it carried unanimously.
12. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1782
Resolution Expressing Appreciation to the Legislature
of California for Passing Assembly Bill 1114 Permit-
ting the Formation of a Regional Park District; and.
Requesting the Governor of California to Approve the
Same."
