HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 6th . . . 1937
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock D.M. with President Weichhart presiding.
The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.

The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of June 29th, 1937, were approved as
transcribed.
7.TRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
V1. From Chas. H. Petersen & Co., requesting permission to submit a proposal for auditing
the books and accounts of the City for the fiscal year 1937-1938. The communication was
ordered filed.
12. From the Chief of the Fire Department of the City of Spokane, Washington, calling
attention to the meeting of the Pacific Coast Association of Fire Chiefs on August llth to
14th in that City, and requesting that the Fire Chief of this City be sent to the meeting.
The communication was ordered filed.
Y3. From the Associated Printing Industries, requesting that the funds for advertising
be only expended through an advertising agency wnich has been continuously in business and
a tax payer in Alameda County for a period of 18 months previous to July 1, 1937. The
communication was ordered filed.
4• From Public Administration Service, in reference to contemplated adoption of a civil
service system in the City of Alameda, and offering the services of that organization as
consultants. On motion of Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Godfrey and unanimous-
ly carried, the communication was referred to the Civil Service Board.
/5. From Hendrickson-Ohlin, requesting a temporary revocable permit to operate a sales
agency and rental track for motor glides on the site of the San Francisco Bay Airdrome,Ltd.
The communication was referred to the City Planning Board on motion of Councilman Godfrey,
seconded by Councilman Morris and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Morris, Maurer and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None.

HEARINGS:
16. A communication was received from E.H. Rogers, Building Inspector, in reference to
the dilapidated building located at 1439 Morton Street, and requesting that the Council
pass a resolution declaring this building a public nuisance. The communication was refer/a-

9. From the City Manager, submitting certificate of final acceptance from the Arch-
itect, Carl Werner, for the removal of the City Hall Tower. Councilman Godfrey moved
that the work be accepted, seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carried by
the following vote a Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
10. From the City Planning Commission, recornniending the reclassification of property kno
as 2454 San Jose Avenue, from Residential Distriet, Class I, to Residential District,
Class 1 3/4, for the purpose of remodeling into flats. Councilman Maurer moved that the
recommendation be adopted, seconded by Councilman Morris and on roll call carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhat
(5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
11. From the City Planning Commission, recommending the reclassification of property
known as 1801 Lafayette Street, from Residential District, Class I, to Residential
District, Class II, for the purpose of remodeling into apartments, Councilman Morris
moved that the recommendation be adopted, seconded by Councilman Carrington and on
roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer
Morris and President Weichhart (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
(12. From the City Clerk, D. Elmer Dyer, notifying the Council of the appointment of
Mrs. Loreme R. Beatie as Deputy City Clerk, and requesting confirmation of the appoint-
ment. Councilman Maurer moved-that the appointment be approved, seconded by Councilman
Morris and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington,
Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.

V14. Councilman Morris addressed the Council in reference to the budget adopted by the
Board of Public Utilities Commissioners and suggested that a more detailed report on
the items of the budget be obtained. The City Clerk informed the Council that the City
Manager had requested the Board of Utilities for such a report and that a copy had been
received and would be oonied and forwarded to the Council as soon as possible. It was
also recommended that a meeting be arranged, to be attended by the Council and the
Public Utilities Boardlto discuss the details of the budget, and it was decided to
arrange such a meeting as soon as the City Manager returned from his vacation.

Councilman Maurer moved, seconded by Councilman Morris, that the claims and bills against
the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims filed with the City
Clerk on July 6th, 1937, and presented to the Council at this meeting be allowed and
paid. On roll call, this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington,
Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5), Noes: None. Absent: None.
25. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular
session on Tuesday evening, July 20th, 1937, at 8 o'clock P.M.
