1925-05-19 Regular CC Minutes1. V REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, MAY 19, 1925. The meeting convened at 8 O'clock with President Otis presiding., The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble, Probst and President Otis, (5). Absent: None. The minutes of the regular meeting of May 5th were approved as read. The following papers were ordered filed: Various applications for soft drink licenses. 2,V Copy of unexecuted Agreement as of March 31, 1921, re West End streets. Affidavit of publication, Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals, Resolution of Intention, No. 77, N.S. 4./ 5.V/ 6./ 12. 21. Oath of Office of E. Howard Baxter as a member of the Board of Public Utilities. Oath of office of David E. Graves, as a member of the Board of Education. Affidavit of posting Notice of Public Work, Resolution of Intention, No. 78, New Series, re opening of Eagle Avenue. Affidavit of pubiloationof Resolution of Intention No, 78, New Series, (Opening of Eagle Avenue.) Demand for incidental expenses under Resolution of Intention, No. 76, New Series, re Calhoun Street. Copy of contract and bond, under Resolution of Intention No. 76, New Series, re Calhoun Street. Affidavit of publication of Notice of Hearing on Zoning Tidelands. Report of Municipal Electric Light Plant for the month of March, 1925. The following communications were received: chambers that the the Oity gutters From the Alameda Chamber of Commerce requesting the USG of the council for the purpose of cholding the annual dahlia show. Mr. Latham moved request be granted, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. From S.'3. Gordon & Co., submitting figures for auditing the books of of Alamedz: for the year ending June 30th, 1925. Ordered filed. From the Alameda Improvement Club re budget appropriation for laying of barbing, etc. Ordered filed. From the Alameda Veterans' Council entending invitation to the members of the council to be present at the Memorial Services to be held at Bay Station on Memorial Day. Mr. Probst moved that the invitation be accepted, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried. From John P. Tibbetts, requesting removal of trees. Mr. Latham moved that the bommunication be referred to the City Manager, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. From the Board of Education, inviting the Council to be present at the Second Annual Competition Drill, R.O.T.C. Mr. Latham moved that the invitation be accepted, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried unanimously. From T. 3. Moody, Great Titan, Province, No. 2, of the K.K.E. requesting use of the ball park in Lincoln Park for the purpose of holding an outdoor ceremonial on the evening of July 4th, 1925. Mr. Latham moved that the communication be referred to a meeting of the Committee of the Vthole, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried. From various residents in the vicinity of Park Avenueand Park Street, re carnivals. Ordered filed. The :elrk stated that he was in receipt of a revocation of offer to dedicate streets in Bay View Tract, Alameda. The communication was ordered filed. A com- munication was then read frori City Attorney Locke, re west end streets. Mr. Latham moved that the entire matter of the west end streets be referred to City Attorney Locke, and that a report be presented at the next meeting of the council. Mr. Probst conded the motion and same carried unanimously. Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 897. Requesting the Governor To Approve Senate Bills 111 and 112." Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 898. Requesting the Governor to Sign Certain Senate and Assembly Bill." Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adoptel and passed unanimously. Mr. Probst introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 899. Granting a Permit for a License to Sell Soft Drinks." Mr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopte3 and passed unanimously. A Bill entitled "A Bill For OrdinariceNo. , New Series. An Ordinance providing For the Licensing of Certain Peddlers, Providing a Penalty for the Violation Thereof, and Repealing any and all Ordinances in Conflict Therewith." came up for passage. After dicsussion, Mr. Neiss moved that this ordinance be re- ferred back to the City Attorney for correction and further consideration, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. Mr. Magnus Hollested was present in the Council Chamber and discussed with the Council the matter of opening and extending Calhoun Street, from Regent to Broadway. After discussion; . Mr. Latham moved that the City attorney and City Engineer be instructed to prepare papersunder the street opening act, to open and extend Calhoun Street, from Regent Street to Broadway; also, Clay Street, from Regent Sreet to Broadway. Mx. Probst seconded the motion and on roll call carried unanimously. City Manager Hickok stated that the United States Engineers Office were about to hold a hearing to establish harbor lines on Government Island. A map was submittal showing proposed harbor lines as established by City Engineer Hamilton, Mr. L. King and City Manager Hickok. Mr. Neiss moved that the United States Engineers office be requested to establish the lines as shown, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried unanimously.
