TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 21, 1925.
The meeting convened at 8 P. M. with Vice-president Probst presiding.
The roll was called and,Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble and Vice-president
Probst, (4) were noted present. Absent: President Otis (1).
The minutes of the meeting of July 7th, 1925 were approved as amended.
1. Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 911.
Declaring Public IntereSt2and Necessity Require the
Acquisition of a Lot adjoining the Municipal
Electric Light Plant on Park Street, and Authorizing
the Mayor to Subscribe to a Complaint in Condemnation
Proceedings for the Acquisition of said Lot."
Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Noble introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 912.
Transferring $5,000.00 from the General Fund
to the Library Fund."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Neiss introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 913.
Transferring $500.00 from the General Fund
to the Initiative Relief Fund."
Mr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 914.
Transferring All Surplus Moneys to the
General. Fund."
Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
/ adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Neiss introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 915.
Cancelling Outstanding Warrants in Excess
Tax Fund and Transferring Amount Therethf
to the General Fund."
Mr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
6d Mr. Noble introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 916.
Fixing the Salary of the Janitor of the Health
Center Building.
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.

17.V/ From the City Planning Commission, re zoning of tidelands on the south and
east shores of Alameda. Ordered filed.
18./ From the South Alameda Community Club, re width of roadway on Bay Farm
Island. 4r. Latham moved that the communication be referred to the City Manager
for answer, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried.
19.( From West End Merchants' Association, re installation of electric sign
at the entrance to Alameda on Webster Street. Mr. Neiss moved that the communica-
tion be referred to the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
20./ From Joint Alameda County 9th of September Committee inviting the council
to participate in the parade to be held in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee.
Mr. Latham moved that the invitation be accepted, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried.
21.V( From A. W. Schander, re construction of new high school tuilding. Ordered
filed. Mr. Neiss moved that the council meet as a Committee of the Whole on
Tuesday evening, July 28th at 8 o'clock, and that an invitation be extended to the
members of the Board of Education, to meet with the Council at that time. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Nobel and carried unanimously.
22.V/ From Wm. J. Locke, City Attorney, rendering legal opinion as to the claim
of the Thompson-Chevrolet Company for repairs in amount of $146.30 to the personal
par of Detective Conant, of the Police Department. Ordered filed.
23./ From Assessor F. J. Croll, giving assessment figures for the year 1925.
Ordered filed.
241 From Chief of Police Wahmuth, with approval of C. E. Hickok, City Manager,
re soft drink license granted Wm. Maas. Mr. Neiss moved that the communication
be referred to a meeting of the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Mr. Latham
and carried.
25W From Mayor Frank Otis, appointing S. M. Haslett as a member of the City
Planning Commission, for the term ending Jan. 1, 1930. Ordered filed.
26.t/ From the City Planning Commission, re the reclassification of the northeast
corner of Central Avenue and Sherman Street. Mr. Latham moved that this matter be
laid over until the next meeting of the Council seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried.
27.1 From the City Planning Commission recommnding the reclassification of
Lots 486 to 490 inclusive, in Block "Z", Map of Fernside. Mr. Neiss moved that
the recommendation of the Planning Commission be adopted, seconded by Mr. Latham
and on roll call carried unanimously.
28.V From the City Planning Commission re the reclassification of Lots 246
to 253 inclusive,in Block "0", Male of Fernside, together with an opinion from City
Attorney Locke,rmlative to same. After discussion, Mr. Latham moved that the
matter te referred back to the City Planning Commission. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Niess and carried.
29.V From F. J. Croll, Redemption Clerk, submitting a list of property sold for
delinquent taxes. The communication was ordered filed.
30.V A Bill entitled

Amending Section 242 of Ordinance No. 1, New Series,
known as the Municipal Code of the City of Alameda."
was introduced and laid over under a provision of the Charter.

Mr. Maurice Couchot was present and requested permission of the
Council to attend the meeting to be held Tuesday evening, July 28th, with the
Board of Education. Permission was granted.
The City Manager stated that purhcase of a new automobile for the Police
Department was necessary and recommended the purchase of a Studebaker automobile.
Mr. Latham moved that that, City Manager be instructed to purchase this machine
from the Alameda Agent, seconded by Mr. Neils and on roll call carried
unanimously.
The City Manager requested permission from the Council to attend the
Training Camp at Monterey from August 2nd to 16th inclusive. Mr. Latham
moved that the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Neils and carried.
The City Manager stated that a request had been made by the Chamber of
Commerce for the City of Alameda to participate in the Dons of Peralta parade
to be held in the City of Oakland, and after dicussion Mr. Neiss moved that
the City of Alameda appropriate a sum in amount of $150.00 for the erection
of a float for advertising purposes. The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham
and on roll call carried.
