1925-11-17 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALA DA,
TUESDAY EVENING' NOVEMBER 17TH, 1925.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble, Probst arid
President Otis, (5). Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of November 3rd were approved as read.
The following papers were ordered filed:
1.7 report of the City Manager for the year 1924-25.
2.N■ Report of the Municipal Utility District, as of November 4, 1925.
Oath of office of George P. Risso,as police officer.
4.v Affidavit of publication, Notice of Assessment for the opening of
Eagle Avenue.
5./ Affidavit of publication, Milk Report for month of October,1925.
6./ Bond of Ralph N. Harvey, Assistant Secretary and Manager, Municipal
Electric Light Plant.
The following communications were received:
7.V/ From the Southern Pacific Company, advising change of Encinal Station
to Caroline Station. Ordered filed.
From the Alameda Park Company, requesting permission to dredge and
reclaim certain lands. Mr. Neiss moved that permission be granted in accordance
with Ordinance No. 91, New Series. The motion was seconded by Mr. Probst and
carried unanimously.
9.v' From the Globe Indemnity Company, re bond and contract of the Contra
Costa Hog Company., Mr. Latham moved that the communication be referred to the
City Attorney, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
10. V' From Johan S. Johansen, requesting permission to move the ark
"Byrnhilda" to Lot 3, Block 256, being on the north line of Eagle Avenue, 150
feet more or less east of Chestnut Street. Mr. Probst moved that the request
be referred to the City Manager, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
111 From George Hayselden, requesting the removal of an old and unused barn
on the rear of the lot known as 927 Buena Vista Avenue. Mr. Neiss moved that the
matter be referred to the Building'Inspector to report back at the next meeting
of the council, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.

From City Attorney Locke, re opinion as to dedication of west end streets.
Ordered filed.
14.V . From City Attorney Locke, relative to Sunday closing. Ordered filed.
15./ From Chief of Police, Wm. H. Wahmuth, requesting that the soft-drink
licenses of the following people be revoked: V. M. Hamann, 2322 Santa Clara Avenue;
John Ghiorso, 1239 Park Street and Louis Monett, 1211 Park Street, for violating
the Wright Act. Mr. Latham moved that the licenses be revoked, in accordance with
the request, seconded by Mr. Probst and on roll call carried unanimously..

An application for permission to sell soft drinks was received from Irene
A. Baugh, to be located at 1300 Park Street. Inasmuch as this application has
received the approval of Chief of Police Wahmuth, Mr. Probst introduced and moved
the adoption of
"Resolution No. 963.
Granting a permit for a License to Sell Soft Drinks."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
(17. Mr. Latham moved that the Council take a recess for the purpose of meeting
as a Committee of the Whole, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.

came up for passage and was read by the Clerk. Mr. Latham moved that the ordinance
as read be adopted, seconded by Mr. Probst and on roll call it was adopted and
passed unanimously.

came up for passage and was read by the Clerk. Mr. Probst movedathat the ordinance
as read be adopted, seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll call it was adopted and pass-
ed unanimously.
In the matter of the hearing on the petition for the reclassification of
the property situated on the west side of Oak Street, commencing at a point one
hundred and fifty feet south of Clement Avenue; thence southerly 360 feet; westerly
450 feet1 northerly 360 feet and westerly 450 feet, from a Residence District,
Class I, to a Factory District, Class VII, previously referred to the Committee
of the Whole, the clerk was requested to read letters from Arthur M. Ellis, and
the Boyle Manufacturing Company, pertaining to this change. The communications
Were ordered filed. Thereupon Mr. Neiss moved that the recommendation of the
City Planning Commission be adopted. The motion was seconded by Mr. Probst and
carried. Mr. S. C. Wright, Attorney for the protestants, addressed the council
in protest, and requested that an exception be taken to the ruling of the council
in the matter. Thereupon a Bill entitled

ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Mr. Noble, and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
22o/ Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 964.
Re Drawbridges Across the Tidal Canal, Between
the Cities of Oakland and Alameda."
Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopt-
ed and passed unanimously.

106.17; Recreation Department, $140.42; Golf Course, $229.63; Store Department, $4:51;
