1926-01-05 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE .CITY OF ALAMEDAa
TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY 5TH, 19Z6.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble and President Otis,
(4) were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of December 15, 1925 Were approved as
read.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of December 29th, 1925 were
approved as read.
The following paper was received and filed:
1.V; Bond of Edith Anderson, employee of the Municipal Electric Light Plant.
2.V Mr. Neiss introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 979.
Designating City's Director of the Alameda Belt Line.
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed by the following vote:- Ayes: 4. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 980.
istab1ishing the Official ‘Grade of a Portion
of Broadway, Regent, CalhoUn and. Clay Streets
in the City of Alameda."
Mr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed by the following vote:- Ayes: 4. Noes: None. Absent:None.
4.1 Mr. Noble introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 981.
Awarding Contract for Well on Bay Farm Island."
Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed by the following vote:- Ayes: 4. Noes: None, Absent: None.
The following communications were received:
5.1 b'rom L. T. lard, making application for combined positions of Port
Warden, Harbor Master and Wharfinger. Mr. Latham moved that the communication
be referred to the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Mr. Noble and carried.
6.4 From Major John W. N. Schulz, acknowledging receipt of copy of Resolu-
tion No. 964. Ordered filed.
7. From the Mayor, Auditor and City Manager, re count of money. Ordered
filed.
The Clerk stated that in accordance with instructions from the council
notices had been posted regarding reclassification of certain property on the
north line of Eagle Avenue, commencing et a point distant 14G feet, 3 inches
easterly from the intersection thereof with the eastern line of Broadway;
running thence easterly along said line of Eagle Avenue, 126 and 57/100 feet
more or less, to the eastern line of the Tregloan Tract, from a Residential
"District, Class I, to a Warehouse District, Class yir in order that warehouses
and repair shops may be constructed for the Board of Education. Messrs. K.
Sutherland, R. S. O'Hare, Charles Carver and others were in the council chamber
and voiced objections to the change. Mr. George S. Williams, member of the Board
of Education, stated the desires of the Board, and after a general discussion
agreed that the buildings should be set back twenty feet from the property line
in front and six feet from the property line on the eastern side. Mr. Neiss
moved that the reclassification be allowed, seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll
call carried by the following vote:- Ayes: 4. NOGS: None. Absent: None.
9.V An application for a permit to sell soft drinks was received from Louis
Monette, 1211 Park Street. Inasmuch as Chief of Police, Wm. H. Wahmuth, refused
to recommend to the council the granting of this permit, Mr. Neiss moved that in
view of conditions previously reported and at the request of womens organizations
the application be denied. The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll call
carried by the following vote:- Ayes: 4. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Claims against the General Departments amounting ot $1495.76; Police
Department, ;93.25; Fire Department, $591.09; Street Department , $3202.69; Health
Department, r5.45: Recreation Department, $93.31; Golf Course, 2317.73; Store
Department, i'73.93; Council Relief Fund, 67.01; Electric Light Fund, $7813.90;
East Bay Nater Company Payments Fund, $9330.69 and the Pension Fund, $944.16,hav-
ing been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed by the Clerk as
