SPECIAI IPE1 TTG OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAIIEDA
MURSDAY 'J:VENING , MARCH 26TH 1926.
The meeting convened at 7:30 o'clock with Council-eresident Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble, Traver and Presi-
dent Otis, (5) were noted present. Absent: None.
The Mayor stated that meeting was called for the purpose of discuss'
with representatives •of the Southern Pacific Company and the Golden Gate
Company, the matter of an automobile ferry system between San Francisco and
Alameda.
The Southern Paoific Company was represented by Mr. F. L. Burekhalter,
who stated that his Company was ready to install a system connecting with Alameda
Pier with half hour service up to 10 P. M., at the same schedule of prices cover-
ing their present service to Oakland Pier; that this service could be put in
operation in about four months time. The outlet of the prcposed road would be
near the south end of the tube; that his company had agreed with the Committee
representing the Chamber of Commerce to move the present tracks andioadway back
1500 feet when called upon to do so by the City of Alameda..
The Golden Gate Ferry Company was represented by Mr. Dudley Sales and Judge
Frank R. Devlin, who asked the council to request the Board of Supervisors of
San Francisco County to grant the Golden Gate Ferry Company its franchise for
automobile ferry boats between San Francisco, from the foot of Townsend Street,
a pier to be built at the foot of Pacific Avenue, Alameda. They also stated
that the Golden Gate Ferry Company were prepared to build three new boats to operate
an this service, on a twenty minute schedule.
Mr. Latham moved that the council take a recess for thirty minutes,
sec onded by Mr. Neiss a ria carried unanimously.
The Council reconvened and all were noted present.
5. / Council-president Otis made the statement that Alameda stands on its previous
decision that it wanted an automobile ferry service between San Francisco and this
city, but the council feels that the matter is too important tc decide without
further 1( ok1ng into the legal questions bearing on the matter.
6. / Mr. Latham moved that the council adjourn to meet in regular session, Tuesday
evening, April 6th, 1926, at 8 o'clock, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried.
