1926-06-01 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY 01' ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, JUNE 1ST, 1926.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Neiss, Noble, Traver and Presi-
dent Otis, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 18th, 1926 were read and approved.
The following papers were filed:
Roof Guarantee, East End bungalow firehouse.
Report of East Bay Municipal Utility District, as of May 19th, 1926.
7 Contract and bond, Standard. Fence Company, re fence Municipal Golf Course.
4./ Grant of Easement, Central Pacific Railway Co. and the Southern Pacific
Company, covering certain lands for extension of Eagle Avenue.
Mr. Traver introduced and moved the adoption of

Transferring 02,364.36 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Kr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Noble introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1045.
Resolution of Acceptance and. Consent
to Recordation of Deed."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll oall it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
The following communications were received:
From Hon. F. M. Angellotti, re change on Board of Directors of Alameda
Belt Line. Ordered filed.
From East Bay Safety Council containing thanks for Alameda's partici-
pation in parade. Ordered filed.
From Alameda High School, commending Superintendent of Parks, E. J.
Probst. Mr. Latham moved that the communication be filed and a appy forwarded to
Er. Probst, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried.
From City Manager Hickok, requesting instructions as to the occupancy
of vacant lot adjoining salesroom of A. L. King. After discussion, Mr. Latham
moved that the communication be referred to the City Attorney for legal opinion.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Noble and carried unanimously.
From W. P. Nixon, Secretary, California Highway Commission, re receipt
of Resolution pertaining to San Simeon_ Highway. Ordered filed.
From the City Manager, re vacations for per diem employees. Mr. Latham
moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary Resolution
or Ordinance to cover vacation periods for per diem employees, in accordance with
the recommendations of the City Manager. The motion was seconded by Mr. Neiss and
on roll call carried unanimously.

15./ From John W. Lewis, re application of Southern Pacific Company for per-
mit to operate automobile ferry. Ordered filed.
From Alameda Improvement Club, endorsing GOlden Gate Ferry Company.

From the Modesto Chamber of Commerce endorsing Golden Gate Ferry
Company. Ordered filed.
From the West End Merchants Association, requesting permission to have
Webster Street, between Santa Clara Avenue and. Taylor Avenue or Haight Avenue, for
half a block either side of Webster Street, closed to traffic in order to hold a
celebration whenever traffic is resumed over Webster Street Bridge. Mr. Neiss
moved that the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Traver and carried.
From the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, requesting permission to use the
council chambers on the dates of August 20th and 21st, 1926, for the purpose of
holding the Annual Dahlia Show. Mr. Latham moved that the request be granted,
seconded by Mr. Noble and carried.
20,sI From City Attorney Locke, requesting permission to procure a search of title
re Government Island. Mr. Traver moved that the City Attorney be instructed to ob-
tain such a search, seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll call carried unanimously.
21.7 From City Attorney Locke, re Supreme Court decision, re ownership of
Government Island. Ordered filed.

In the matter of the abatement proceedings against the property at 2331
Lincoln Avenue, owned by Mr. P. A. McCann, the Clerk read a communication from
Hon. L. R. Weinmann, requesting a postponement to June 15th. Mr. Traver moved that the
.request be granted, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.

A report on the acquiring of certain tidelands on the south shore for park
purposes, together with a map, was read by the Clerk. Mr. Neiss, moved that the
report and Map be referred to the City Planning Commission, seconded by Mr. Latham
and carried.
In the matter of the hearing of the reclassification of the northwest corner
of Post and Madison Streets. After discussion, Mr. Traver moved that the recommende
ation of the City Planning Commission be adopted, and that the petition be denied.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Noble and on roll call carried by the following
vote:- Ayes: Councilmen Latham, Noble, Traver and President Otis, (4). Noes:
Councilman Neiss, (1). Absent: None.
In the matter of the hearing of the automobile ferry system between the
City of Alameda and the City of San Franciscoi Mr. Traver moved that the matter
be continued two weeks, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
Mr. Latham moved that the City Attorney be granted the last two weeks of June
as his annual vacation, with permission to leave the State. The motion was second-
ed by Mr. Neiss and carried.
Mr. Latham moved that the City Manager be granted two weeks annual vacation
beginning with June 21st. The motion was seconded by Mr. Traver and carried
unanimously.
The City Manager presented a report from the Key System Transit Company, re
alleged crowding of cars, which was read by the Clerk and ordered filed.
A request was received from L. L. Page, for permission to grade, curb and
improve Concordia Street, from Pacific Avenue to Buena Vista Avenue, under
private contract. Mr. Traver moved that permission be granted, seconded by Mr.
Noble and carried unanimously.
A request was received from L. L. Page, to grade, curb and improve Eagle
Avenue from Webster Street to the right of way of the Southern Pacific Comrany
under private contract. Mr. Noble moved that permission be granted, seconded
by Mr. Latham and carried unanimously.
Dr. Jm. J. Pierce, called the attention of the council to the unprotected
portion of the sea-wall at the south end of Park Street, running towards Oak
Street. Mr. Latham moved that the City Manager be requested to endeavor to have
this condition corrected by Powell Bros. who are the owners of the land in
question, seconded by Mr. Traver and carried unanimously.
