1927-05-31 Special CC MinutesSPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALIWEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, MAY 31ST, 1927.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock vith Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Calcutt Latham, Neiss, Noble and Fra3-
ident Otis were noted present. Absent: Nona.
1.v/ The Clerk presented affidavit of Police Officer Olsson as to the delivery
of the call for the special meeting of the council to the councilmen's official
addresses, together with a copy of the call. Ordered filed.
2.1 A general discussion was participated in by various people in the council
chambers and the council, relative to the report of the Board of Engineers on
transbay brdige across San Francisco Bay and its effect upon Alameda's water-
front and proposed harbor development. Following the discussion, Mr. Latham
moved that the entire matters discussed be referred to the Bridge Committee con-
sisting of the Mayor, City usnager, City Attorney and A. C. Keane, for further
consideration. The motion'was seconded by Mr. Calcutt and carried unanimously.
3.\/ The Council then discussed the situation relative to the bridges between
the cities of Alameda and Oakland. A verbal report upon the matter was
rendered by City Manager Hickok. Mr. L. M. King advised'thet the United States
Government has stated in their various reports that the High Street Bridge
must be removed and replaced with a new bridge,but that they would permit
temporary repairs on the Fruitvale and Park Street bridges. City Attorney Locke
read a resume of the actions between the United States Government and the County
Board of Supervisors relative to the acceptance of the bridges from the Government.
After further discussion, Mr. Neiss moved that the Estuary Bridge Committee, con-
sisting of the Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney and L. M. King meet with the
Chambers of Commerce of Oaklaad and Alameda and other civic bodies and present
arguments to the County Board of Supervisors to have these bridges repaired
immediately. The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham and carried unanimously.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to meet
in regular session, Tuesday evening, June 7, 1927, at 8 o'clock.
