1927-07-12 Regular CC Minutes• ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE GITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 12TH, 1927.
The roll was called and Councilmen Calcutt, Latham Neiss and Noble were
noted present, (4). Absent: Council-president Otis, (1).
In the absence of Council-president Otis, Vice-president Latham presided.
A communication was received from L. L. Page, requesting and extension of
ninety days to complete improvement of streets in the west end. Mr. Noble
moved that the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Neiss and carried unanimously.
2A/ A communication was received from the Business and Professional Women's
Club of Alameda requesting an appropriation of 0250.00 to assist in defraying the
expenses of entertaining the National Convention of Business and Professional
Women's Clubs. Mrs. J. Sherman McDowell was present and addressed the council
relative thereto. Vice-president Latham called attention to the fact that in
the event the 0250.00 was appropriated by the council, this money could only
be spent for advertising purposes and could not be used as a portion of a
fund to defray the expenses of a luncheon. City Attorney Locke also rendered
a verbal opinion along these lines. After further discussion, Mr. Neiss moved
that the sum of $250.00 be appropriated from the advertising fund. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Noble and on roll call carried by the following vote:- Ayes:
Councilmen LathLm, Neiss and Noble. Noes: Councilman Calcutt. Absent: Council-
president Otis.
• Mr. Calcutt moved that the City Manager be instructed to furnish the
council with specifications and estimated costs of reducing Park Street sidewalks
from Lincoln Avenue to San Jose Avenue, with the object of widening Park Street.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Noble and carried unanimoutly.
4.t/ Councilman Calcutt presented for introduction the following Ordinance:
"Ordinance No.
New Series.
Authorizing and Providing for a Lease of Sixty-six (66)
Acres of Tidelands on the Western Waterfront of the City
of Alameda for use as an airport, air-craft factory
and School, and Carrying on a General Aviation Business."
Passage of this ordinance was laid over under provision of the Charter.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to meet
in regular session, Tuesday evening, July 19th, 1927 at 8 o'clock.
