1927-10-18 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 18TH, 1927.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Calcutt, Latham, Neiss, Noble and Presi-
dent Otis (5) were noted present.
The minutes of the regular meeting of October 4th, 1927 were read and approved.
1.*1 Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1187.
Fixing Salaries of the following Officers and
Employees of the City of Alameda, to wit:
Deputy Auditor, Deputy Assessor, Building
Inspector, City Clerk, City Hall Custodian,
Fireman Mechanic, Bacteriologist, Clerk of
Health Department, Janitor of Health Center,
Foreman of Street Department, Assistant Treasurer,
Superintendent of Parks and Golf Course Foreman."
Mr. Neiss seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
Mr. Noble introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1188.
Authorizing the Payment of $15.00 per month to
the Health Officer of Use of his Automobile."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Neiss introduced and moved the adoption of
" Resolution No. 1189.
Fixing Compensation of Election Officers."
Mr. Noble seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
The following were received and filed:
Oath of office of A. C. Keane, as member of the Board of Education.
Oath of office of W. King as Special Police officer, Strand Theater.
A petition was received from various property owners in the vicinity of Central
Avenue and Ninth Street, requesting that a building in the service station at the
northwest corner of said streets be removed. Mr. A. Filipelli and others addressed
the Council in protest. Mr. Baehr, the lessee of the property, was present and
after general discussion, it was agreed that he would consult with the protestants in
an endeavor to reach an amiacable agreement in the matter.
The following communication was received:
From the City Planning Commission recommending the reclassification of
the lot on the southwest corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Everett Street, to a
Business District, Class V. There being no protests to this reclassification, Mr.
Neiss moved the adoption of the recommendation of the City Planning Commission,
seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
8.V In the matter of the further hearing for the removal of the dilapidated build-
ing at 2241 Pacific Avenue, Mr. Neiss moved that the matter be referred to the City
Attorney to prepare the necessary resolution in condemnation. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Noble and carried unanimously.
The following Ordinance was introduced and laid over under a provision of the
Charter:

Reclassifying Property.
(Southtest corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Everett St.)
(Garage)"
Mr. H. M. Bradley addressed the council on Lehalf of the Real Estate Board
requesting that the students of the Alame da High School be granted a gratuitous
building permit for the erection of a building in the Fernside Tract, this building
to be built under the supervision of the School Department, City Attorney Locke
ruled that inasmuch as this was a semi-public enterprise the council could grant
such gratuitous permit, thereupon Mr. Latham moved that the permit be granted. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Noble and on roll call carried by the following vote:-
Ayes: Councilmen Calcutt, Latham, Noble and ?resident Otis, (4). Noes: Councilman
Salcett, (1). Absent: None.
Mr. Neiss moved that the council place itself on record as being in favor
of the retaining of the three estuary bridges, namely Park Street, Fruitvale Avenue
and High Street. The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham and carried unanimalsly.

There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to met in
regular session, Tuesday evening, November 1, 1927, at 8 o'clock.
