1928-09-25 Special CC MinutesSPECIAL iEETING OF THE ODUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AIAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, SEPTEMBER 25,,1928.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Calcutt, Latham, Neiss, Noble and
President Otis, (5) were noted present.
Mr. Latham moved that City Attorney Locke be appointed to serve as City
Clerk pro tem in the absence of City Clerk Varcoe. The motion was seconded
by yr. Calcutt and carried unanimously.
The Clerk then offered for filing copy of notice of call for special
meeting, also affidavit showing delivery to addresses of councilmen.
President Otis then announced to a large number of people present that
the special meeting was called for the purpose of getting an expression of opinion
on the recent ruling of the Railroad Commission authorizing the abandonment of
street car lines and also routing of main bus line on Central Avenue. Mr. Neiss
moved that the council go on record as opposing the decision of the 'Railroad
Commission, especially as to the abandonment of the San Jose Avenue line east
of Park Street and the bus line west of Webster Street; also, as to the routing
of busses over Central Avenue and that a rehearing be demanded. This motion was
seconded by Mr. Noble. President Otis then extended an invitation to -
the citizens present to express their opinions, and in response to this invitation
the council was addressed by Messrs. Bosshard, Bargones, Neville, Shaw,
George T. Wright, Searles, Barker, Stannard, Pierce, Mrs. Caton, Miss Jorgenson.
and Mis. Gladky. Mr. Lundberg, President of the Key .System Transit Company
andMr. Bell, the engineer, were present and informed the people as to the
Company's attitude. Mr. A. R. Linn, Manager of the Alameda Chamber of
Commerce presented a corlYnunication to the Clerk pro tem, Which was submitted
to the Mayor without being read. After further discussion,in the matter, the
motion made by Mr. Niess was then put to the council and the same was carried
unanimously.
There being no further business to transact, the council adjourned to
meet in regular session, Tuesday evening, October 2nd, 1928 at 8 o'clock.
